Minnesota Lacrosse Shall Be Known as the Minnesota SwarmOctober 25, 2004Swarm Press ReleaseMinnesota Lacrosse announced today at the Xcel Energy Center that they will be known as the Minnesota Swarm. Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill and players Neil Doddridge and Ray Guze were on hand for the presentation that was free to the public. Yours truly was there, I swear. The presentation itself was held on the turf that will be used by the team with the new primary logo in the middle. The team colors are Minnesota Royal Blue, Electric gold and Minnesota Swarm Silver. The primary logo is an ambigious insect in the shape of letter "S". The bottom of the "S" is shaped as a stinger. The top of the "S" is shaped like insect wings in white surrounding blue antennae coming out of the top of the head. Where the "S" in "SWARM" is, is where the head of insect is located.
The secondary logo is of a lacrosse stick with insect wings on each side of the head. Sort of mutation combining a lacrosse stick and insect. The head has the Swarm "S" contained within is cradled by lacrosse mesh. The bottom of stick is pointed as like a stinger.
The Swarm was one of four names that were in a "Name The Team" contest that was open to the public to vote on. The other three finalists were Bullheads, Thrill and Rush. The Bullheads was my choice especially as it ends in a "S" and is the only plural name. |
