The Swarm Wheel and Deal on Draft Day

September 13 2006

Swarm Entry Draft Page

Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill had to wait a while to make a pick today because he has dealt the early ones back and forth so many times to make your head spin.

The first move of the day, O'Neill traded the 19th pick and their fourth round pick in 2007 to Toronto for Nick Inch and a 2nd Round pick in 2007. That means the first pick for the Swarm is now #23.

Nick Inch played for the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks this summer in the MSL with Kasey Beirnes, Travis Hill and Mike Attwood. In 10 regular season games, Nick scored an assist as a defensemen for the Kodiaks. He scored one goal in the playoffs in four games.

Nick is 6'2" 210lbs was originally selected by Toronto in the 5th Round of the 2005 Draft out of Kitchener-Waterloo Braves on OLA Jr. A.

Nick also attended Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

The #23 pick was traded to the Arizona Sting for the Sting's 2nd Round pick in 2007. The Swarm still have not made a draft pick.

Minnesota gets 30th pick from Buffalo for 3rd Round pick in 2007 and with the 30th pick they pick Tyler Hass. Hass, a transitional player, is 6''4" 215lbs and according to Marty, really excelled in the playoffs in Jr. A. this year. Also, Marty says Hass is still developing as a lacrosse player.

Hass also plays basketball at the University of Victoria, Marty says he is obligated to play there and may not be readily available. Marty says if Hass played lacrosse only then he would have been a first rounder.

Minnesota picks Kevin Croswell with pick #31. Croswell is a goaltender from the Port Coquitlam Saints. He is huge at 6'4" 205lbs. 5th in Junior A British Columbia in GAA in 2006, Originally from Peterborough, Ontario. Looks like some competition for Attwood.

The Swarm pick Kevin Milkowski with the 44th pick. Milkowski is a lefthanded forward for the Victoria Sharmrocks Jr. A team. Milkowski is 6'1" 195lbs.

The Swarm select Andrew Witt with the #57 pick. Witt is a 6'3" 195lbs. forward from the Jr. A New Westminster Salmonbellies in British Columbia.

The Swarm get 63rd pick from Buffalo for the Swarm's fifth rounder in 2007 and with that pick they take Dave Ellis. Ellis was interviewed at the draft. He described himself as a defensive transition player. He says he must stay committed and stay in the gym. He played for the Six Nations Arrows who made it to the Minto Cup this year losing to the Peterborough Lakers in the finals. In 16 games this year, Ellis, who is 5'11" 195lbs., notched two assists and 28 PIM.

With the 70th pick, the Swarm select Hugh Johnson from Jr. A. Six Nations Arrows. Johnson, a teammate of Ellis', is a 5'9" 160lbs. lefthanded forward. In 21 games, Huey as he is called, scored seven goals and thirty-five assists in 2006.
