Minnesota Swarm Acquire Mike Hominuck for Kelly Hall

February 5, 2007

It looks like the rumored trade is relatively beneficial and equal for both sides. I think Kelly Hall was really getting into a nice groove with the Swarm and to lose him will be tough. Hominuck appears to be very solid and reliable as the LumberJax's leading scorer this year. With the Swarm done playing on the road out west this season, the travel is definitely made easier for Hominuck more so than Hall but both come out better nonetheless. This looks very similar to last year's deal between these teams in which we got Scott Stewart and they got Ryder Bateman. Stewart and Hominuck live out east while Bateman and Hall live out west. If this deal was consummated over drinks between General Managers Marty O'Neill and Derek Keenan at last Friday's night post-game party, it would mark the one anniversary of the Stewart-Bateman trade.

If true, a lot of Swarm fans wish Kelly Hall the best in his career going forward and welcome Mike Hominuck to the Swarm.

Biography

  1. Buffalo Bandits - 2 games 1g 1a
  2. Buffalo Bandits - 8 games 5g 7a
  3. Portland LumberJax - 15 games 28g 25a
  4. Portland LumberJax - 6 games 6g 18a

He plays for the Brooklin Redmen in the summer and originally drafted by the Philadelphia Wings in 2001. He is also the nephew of Dallas Eliuk.

As a side note, the biggest loser is me on this trade, thank you Marty O'Neill. If this trade is a go, it sure screws up my ritual of immortalizing a player on t-shirt for every game I attend. I was three quarters done on a Kelly Hall shirt for the roadtrip to Chicago on February 24th and now he supposedly gets traded. I spend eight dollars on a white t-shirt, five on frabric dye and paint for each shirt and now I got a 3/4 finished shirt I can't wear to a game. What should I ever do?

Swarm View of the Trade

LumberJax View of the Trade

If you read the releases, the LumberJax seem more thrilled to get Hall, then the Swarm in getting Hominuck. LumberJax General Manager and Head Coach Derek Keenan does make it sound that geography played a great deal into the deal. In that case, Hall maybe getting the better deal. I hope that Hominuck thinks Minnesota is east enough to suit his needs. If it isn't, Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill may be making another trade around the trading deadline next month. That deadline I think is sometime in the week after the All-Star Game on March 10th. Marty has always been busy on that date and he could be again if Hominuck wants to play a littte bit farther east than Minnesota.

There are also rumours that we may get Ryan Sharp, a defenseman for Portland, in a trade. He was an All-Star last year and is a fantastic transition player. If true, the Swarm will have to give a great deal. Maybe a first round pick next year?

Also, the status of Jamie Taylor is still up in the air. Is he injured, not in the Swarm's plans or unable to make the games? No one knows, but I think something will have to happen soon.

In conclusion, the Swarm's motto maybe, "Not East Enough for Most, Not West Enough for Most of the Rest, Just Right for the Select Few".
