  • 08/23/10 - The Swarm acquire Giles and a Pick from Boston for Buchanan and a Pick

    The Minnesota Swarm traded Kevin Buchanan and a fourth round pick in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft to the Boston Blazers for Mat Giles and a first rouund pick in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.

    Giles, 6' 4" 225 lb., is a righthaned forward who has been in the league since 1999. Still an urnestricted free agent, Giles is free to sign with any other team. In 160 games in his career, Giles has 194 goals and 227 assists. Last year, Giles split time with Philadelphia and Boston where he notched 20 goals and 34 assists.

    Buchanan was one of three first round picks by the Swarm in 2008. In his rookie season of 2009, Buchanan scored 22 goals and 23 assists. However, due to work commitments, Buchanan only played in one game in 2010 in which he assisted on one goal. He moved to Boston earlier this year and would not been able to make the games in Minnesota in 2011.

    The Minnesota Swarm traded Scott Self and Jay Thorimbert to the Buffalo Bandits for a second round pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft and a first round pick in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft. Both Self and Thorimbert played one year for the Swarm. Self scored one goal and eleven assists in sixteen games for the Swarm in 2010 as he continued his 92 game consecutive games played streak. Thorimbert played in fifteen games for the Swarm in 2010 scoring eight goals and six assists. Thorimbert set single season Swarm records in 2010 with 152 loose balls and 180 face off wins.

    The Minnesota Swarm signed two players who both played for the Buranby Lakers of the WLA summmer to one year contracts.

    Drew Dickie is a 6' 1" 198 lb. goaltender who had a .783 save perentage and 9.81 GAA this past summer as a rookie in the WLA circuit.

    Erik Sage is a 6' 3" 210 lb. defenseman who was drafted by the Washingotn Stealth in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft but cut in training camp. He also can take faceoffs where he was 42 of 80 this summer.

  • 08/06/10 - Swarm Select Three in Orlando Titnas Dispersal Draft

    The NLL held a dispersal draft of players from the Orlando Titans, who will not participate in the 2011 season. The Swarm had picks 4, 14 and 24 in the draft.

    With the fourth pick, the Swarm selected defenseman Rory Smith. Smith led the NLL in penalty minutes last year with 102. This will be Smith's third year in the league. The 6' 1" 210 lb Smith is from Mimico, Ontario. Smith is expected to be an enforcer for the Swarm but has improved his defense throughout his career.

    With the fourteenth pick, the Swarm selected forward Tim O'Brien. The 6' 1" 200 lb. O'Brien has been in the league since 2000 and also is respected as one of the toughest fighters in the league. He won a Champions Cup in 2005 with the Toronto Rock.

    With the 24th pick, the Swarm selected defenseman Matt Bocklet. Bocklet is 5' 9" 190 lbs and is from South Salem, New York. He has one year of NLL experience in 2009 with the Philadelphia Wings. He was an All-American defenseman at Johns Hopkins and is a MLL All-Star with the Denver Outlaws.
