The Minnesota Swarm traded Matt Disher to the Edmonton Rush for the fifth pick in the dispersal draft.

It will be tough to see Matt Disher go. He has been a great ambassador for the team since the beginning. A tough 2007 season for Dish did not help him as Nick Patterson emerged as the clear #1.

The Sting players under the rules set for the draft will be redispersed after the 2008 season if the Sting don't return for the 2009 season.

The Swarm went young. That's the way Marty likes it.

Our oldest player is Eric Pacey. Grandpa Pacey is only 29 and his birthday isn't until May.

The backup goaltender battle will be one to watch with Avery and Kevin Croswell. Avery got ripped on the Calgary boards the last couple of seasons but he didn't do too bad last year.

Grimes may be our replacement for Michael Kilby, who just signed with Portland today. At 6-3 210, Grimes should be able to lay the lumber on the opposition.

Secore should give Rory McDade a run for the fourth lefthanded forward on the team.

Tinning; however, will have a tough time cracking the lineup on the right side. Ryan Ward, Sean Pollock and Craig Point are top three. Between Justin Norbraten, Colin Achenbach and Tinning for the fourth spot.

Avery could very well be #2 and we get to keep him. Secore and Grimes go back to Arizona in 2009. Not sure how much Tinning will contribute but you never know.

Brock Boyle was available but the Swarm passed on him and Chicago picked him with the 21st pick.

G-L-Ryan Avery

  • Height: 6-1
  • Weight: 200
  • Born in: Hamilton, ON
  • Plays for Kitchener-Waterloo in OLA Sr. A
  • Drafted: Rochester 2nd Round Pick 18 in 2002
  • Started playing in Buffalo in 2006 but was traded to Calgary later in the season. Played in Calgary in 2007 but taken by Boston in 2007 Expansion Draft.
    • Games:24
    • W-L: 4-0
    • GAA: 10.76
    • Save %: .786
  • One of his four victories came against the Swarm when he relieved Andrew Leyshon in net in a Calgary 15-14 victory on January 27, 2007. Avery made 27 of 34 saves to rally Calgary.
  • Look for him to wear 60 in Minnesota.

    F-L-Andy Secore

  • Born: 4/28/84
  • Height: 5-11
  • Weight: 210
  • Born in: Hamilton, ON
  • Plays for Coquitlam in WLA Sr. A
  • Drafted: Calgary 2nd Round Pick 20 in 2005
  • Traded to Arizona before the 2006, Secore finally got real action in 2007 with 10g and 12a in 14 games. Score 3g and 3a in 2007 playoffs.
    • Games:17
    • Goals:10
    • Assists:15
    • Points:25
  • Look for Secore to try to get #21. He will go back to Arizona for the 2009 season.

    D-L-Mike Grimes

  • Born: 3/15/86
  • Height: 6-3
  • Weight: 210
  • Born in: Peterborough, ON
  • Plays for Burnaby BCLA Jr. A
  • Drafted: Arizona 1st Round Pick 6 in 2006
  • Arizona's top pick in 2006. That pick used to belong to Minnesota but became the Sting's in the following trade:
11/05/2004 ARIZONA STING: Traded forward Chad Culp and defenseman Ryan Cousins and to the Minnesota Swarm in exchange for defenseman Brock Robertson and their first round selection in the 2006 Entry Draft.
  • After all the rigarmole, we only lost Brock Robertson.
  • 2006 Entry Draft Prospects
Mike Grimes - Peterborough Lakers Mike Grimes enters the draft after helping lead the Peterborough Lakers Junior A squad to a Minto Cup this season. Through the regular season to the championship, the six-foot-three, 210 pound defender played 39 games and scored 10 goals, 25 assists for 35 points.
    • Games:11
    • Goals:1
    • Assists:3
    • Points:4
  • Grimes moved out to B.C. this year to work for an electric company but in order to play out there, he had to submit for a transfer from the OLA to the BCLA. Interesting reading. While at Burnaby, his team lost the Minto Cup to Six Nations on September 1, 2007. Six Nations was led by Swarm 2007 draft picks Craig Point and Chris Courtney.
  • Grimes wore 23 in Arizona. He will have to get a new number in Minnesota maybe 15. He will go back to Arizona for the 2009 season.

    F-R-Mark Tinning

  • Born: 5/23/83
  • Height: 6-1
  • Weight: 188
  • Born in: Kitchener, ON
  • Plays for Kitchener-Waterloo OLA Sr. A
  • Drafted: Arizona 2nd Round Pick 13 in 2004
    • Games:3
    • Goals:2
    • Assists:2
    • Points:4
  • Tinning is a righthander who played on a team stacked with righthanders like Dan Dawson and Craig Conn. In three years, he only got into three games and was on the practice roster for all of 2006. Boston acquired him a trade with Andrew Lazore from Arizona for Mike Grimes, his teammate here in Minnesota, right after the 2007 Expansion Draft.
  • My guess is he may try to get #48.
