Carlson Traded to Edmonton for MacDonaldJune 30, 2014The Minnesota Swarm get:
The Edmonton Rush get:
Tyler Carlson was traded to the Edmonton Rush for Brodie MacDonald in a big goaltender deal to kick off the trading season leading up to the 2015 NLL season. Carlson had been with the Swarm since 2012 and has shared goaltending duties in all three years with the team. Carlson was 11-15 with an 11.49 GAA and .749 Save % in 35 games (27 of them starts). Carlson also was the winning goaltender in the Swarm's 20-11 playoff victory over the Toronto Rock in 2013. Brodie MacDonald comes to the Swarm after spending his first three years in Edmonton backing up Aaron Bold. MacDonald played in eight games for the Rush with 2-2 record, 9.44 GAA and an .774 Save %. MacDonald has done rather well in the summer with the Langley Thunder and if not for Bold, would already be a top starter in the NLL. He won't be missed as he is 6' 7" and 245 lbs only Richard Morgan could look down on him. MacDonald is expected to wear #50 even though that number was worn with great distinction by Ryan Cousins as the Swarm's first captain from 2005 - 2011. The deal also includes some top picks in the upcoming 2014 NLL Entry Draft. The Swarm traded the first overall pick in the draft to Edmonton. Edmonton then sent the Swarm the third overall pick in the draft. The Swarm were expected to draft Jeremy Noble, Jason Noble's twin brother, with the first overall but now they will have to hope that Edmonton and Vancouver (who holds the second pick) pass on him. The Swarm may figure that Noble may drop as Edmonton may be interested in Miles Thompson, whose brother Jeremy plays for the Rush. Vancouver could be projected to pick Coquiltam, BC native Ben McIntosh with the second pick to keep him in Vancouver metro area. The Rush also got the Swarm's second round pick in the projected deep 2015 NLL Entry Draft. The 2014 NLL Entry Draft will be on September 22nd in Oakville, Ontario at the Toronto Rock Athletic Center. |
