2014 Entry DraftSeptember 22, 2014 - Oakville, ON
Minnesota Swarm drafted the following players
The Minnesota Swarm completed the following trades related to the 2014 NLL Entry Draft:
The Minnesota Swarm had five picks in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft but by the end of the night they added another pick by trading away Jay Card to the New England Black Wolves. Many thought that the Swarm would target Jeremy Noble to pair him with his brother Jason Noble but the Rochester Knighthawks made a blockbuster trade earlier in the day to move up to second overall to take Noble. Now the Swarm had to go with Plan B or did they really get the man the wanted to begin with. With their third pick of the first round, the Minnesota Swarm took forward Miles Thompson from Onondaga, New York. Thompson is well known in lacrosse circles where he was named the co-winner of the 2014 Tewaaraton Tropy with his brother Lyle (draft eligible next year) while playing for the University of Albany. Thompson played for the Rochester Rattlers of the MLL where he helped lead them to finals before losing to the Denver Outlaws. He also won a bronze medal for the Iroquois Nationals at the 2014 World Field Lacrosse Championships in July. But Thompson finished the summer as a champion as his Onondaga Redhawks won the 2014 Presidents Cup, the Canadian Senior B championship. Thompson will be relied upon to immediately help Callum Crawford on the right side of the offense. From the Bible of Lacrosse: @ MILES THOMPSON BORN: DECEMBER 8, 1990 HT. 5'10" WT. 180 LBS. JUNIOR A SERIES With the first pick of the second round, tenth overall, the Minnesota Swarm took lefty forward Joe Haodais Maracle from Six Nations. Maracle was born in 1994 making him the youngest player on the team. In addition because of his age, he had to declare early for this year's draft similar to Andrew Suitor for the 2010 NLL Entry Draft. Even though he is young, Maracle already has two years of pro ball under his belt in CLAX the past two seasons where he measured up rather well. Maracle just finished up the summer winning the Canadian Junior A Championship, the Minto Cup, with the Six Nations Arrows. He has also won two Founders Cup, Canadian Junior B Championships, with the Six Nations Rebels. Maracle will be battling with MacDoanld for playing time on the left side. When they finally got to their next pick it was the beginning of the fourth round. So to open the fourth with the pick #29, the Minnesota Swarm took London, Ontario native Eric Guiltinan. Guiltinan is a lefthanded transition player who played the last two seasons with the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves of the OLA Jr A. During the last few autumns including this year, Guiltinan plays running back in college for the Wilfrid Laurier University football team, so expect Guiltinan to not shy away from contact. Card was drafted by the Swarm in 2011 and played for the team in 2012 and 2013. Card played 31 regular season games with 24 goals and 26 assists and in four playoff games, Card had four goals and four assists. Card took the 2014 season off and became forgotten and expendable with the drafting of Thompson. The Swarm in return got the 40th pick in this draft and took Peterborough, Ontario defenseman Paxton Leroux. Leroux played the last four years for the junior Lakers under former Swarm player Mat Giles. Leroux is known for his skills as a fighter as he averaged over ten penalty minutes per game in his junior A career. He also is still pursuing a pro hockey career where he also is skilled with his fists as he trys out for the London Knights in Ontario. It looks like hockey takes priority right now and if successful, it may be a while before we see him dress for the Swarm.
