Series History:

Total 5-8 2-3 3-5 0-1 0-1

The Roughnecks swept the season series last year, 2-0, winning both in Calgary and at The Hive. Scott Evans had 2 goals and 9 assists while Scott Ranger scored six goals to beat the Swarm at The Hive by 17-16 score. Curtis Dickson scored three shorthanders in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. In Calgary, the Roughnecks scored nine goals in the second quarter to sprint out to 12-7 halftime lead which eventually became 19-15 at the end. Dane Dobbie had six goals in the game for the Roughnecks while Callum Crawford had 3 goals and 7 assists for the Swarm.

The Roughnecks have won three straight in the series including two straight at The Hive. The last win over the Roughnecks at The Hive was in 2011 when Andrew Suitor's four goals led to a 13-8 win.

Last Weekend:

The Swarm traveled to Denver and lost to the Colorado Mammoth by a score of 14-12. Callum Crawford led the Swarm with 4 goals and 3 assists and Zach Higgins saved 37 of 51 shots in his first NLL and Swarm start in net.

The Roughnecks were the only team off last weekend. Their last game was on January 25th in Calgary where they lost 14-13 in overtime to the Colorado Mammoth.

Notes:

  • It is Heroes Night at The Hive as the Swarm recognize families of military members and first responders.
  • The Swarm are the only team in the NLL without a win at home
  • The 1-4 start for the Swarm ties for the worst start of the season as the same start occurred in 2010. The 2010 team did win their sixth game of the year to improve to 2-4 but finished the season 5-11.
  • The Swarm have lost two straight at home with their last home win on April 6, 2013 against Buffalo.
  • Expected starting goaltenders - Swarm: Not sure & Roughnecks: Mike Poulin. Zach Higgins started last weekend in Colorado after relieving Tyler Carlson in both Wings games on January 18th & 19th. I would like to see Carlson get back at it this weekend to regain any confidence that he may have lost but have the Swarm decided to stick with the hot hand in Higgins now? We may find out this weekend.
  • Faceoff battle - Swarm: Jordan MacIntosh & Roughnecks - Geoff Snider. The Swarm will be at a disadvantage if down a goal or two in the last minute of the game if a faceoff occurs.
  • Swarm - 8.4 goals per game (9th in NLL) - 11.0 goals given up per game (3rd in NLL)
  • Roughnecks - 12.0 goals per game (5th in NLL) - 13.6 goals given up per game (8th in NLL)
  • Shawn Evans led the NLL in scoring last year with 112 points (32g 80a).
  • Scott Ranger will miss the month of February due to work commitments.
  • Dane Dobbie (16) and Jeff Shattler (12) have scored 28 of the Roughnecks 60 goals this season or 47%.
  • Former Roughnecks with the Swarm: Callum Crawford

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 15 Calgary Roughnecks 14
