The two teams meet for the first of three games between the teams this year this Saturday.

Last year, the two teams split the regular season series with both teams winning at home by a 13-12 score. The win for the Swarm came at The Hive with Tyler Hass scoring the game winner in overtime. The Rock used a 3-0 fourth quarter in Toronto to come back and beat the Swarm in January 2013.

They also met in the first round of the 2013 playoffs in Toronto where the Swarm had their greatest playoff victory with a 20-11 trouncing of the Rock. Tyler Carlson saved a Swarm playoff record 54 shots while Shayne Jackson and Jordan MacIntosh each had four goals.

Last Weekend:

The Swarm lost their fourth straight game last Saturday to the Edmonton Rush by a score of 14-9 at The Hive.

The Rock lost their first game at home to the two-time defending NLL Champions, Rochester Knighthawks, by a 17-9 score.

Notes:

  • Tyler Hass will be coming off injured reserve prior to the game after recovering from an upper body injury. Hass has not played since January 19th in the home opener. My hunch is that Dane Stevens will be moved off the active roster but definitely not confirmed.
  • The Swarm are two games out of the third and final playoff spot in the East, which is held by Toronto.
  • The Swarm start a five game stretch against the East with the first three on the road. Their next home game is on March 16th against Toronto.
  • The four game losing streak is fourth worst streak in team history, the last time they lost five in a row was in 2010 when they lost eight in a row.
  • Callum Crawford (127) needs four more goals to tie Sean Pollock (131) for second all-time in Swarm regular season goals.
  • Crawford needs one more assist for 300 in his NLL regular season career. He needs three more to get 250 for his Swarm regular season career.
  • Andrew Suitor needs one more forced turnover to become the first player to record fifty in a Swarm uniform during the regular season. Jeff Gilbert just needs two to reach that mark also.
  • Expected starting goaltenders - Swarm: Tyler Carlson (5th in GAA in the NLL) & Rock: Nick Rose.
  • Faceoff battle - Swarm: Jordan MacIntosh & Rock - Patrick Merrill.
  • Swarm - 9.1 goals per game (9th in NLL) - 12.0 goals given up per game (5th in NLL)
  • Rock - 12.9 goals per game (2nd in NLL) - 12.3 goals given up per game (6th in NLL)
  • Garrett Billings is third in points & second in assists in the NLL.
  • Colin Doyle leads the NLL with seven power play goals and is on pace to score his 500th NLL career goal in the game.
  • Patrick Merrill celebrates his 35th birthday on gameday.
  • Chris White has been activated off injured reserve and will make his 2014 season debut in the game.
  • Former Rock with the Swarm: Jeff Gilbert & Mike Hobbins
  • Former Swarm with the Rock: Kasey Beirnes

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 15 Toronto Rock 14
