Last Night:

The Minnesota Swarm started well with a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter but only scored once the rest of the way as the Toronto Rock followed up with thirteen consecutive goals to obliterate the hometown team at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at the Hive by a 16-4 score. The Swarm were outshot on goal by a 63-41 margin with Rock goaltender Brandon Miller saving 37 of 41 shots. No Swarm player had more than one goal while both Zach Higgins and Brodie MacDonald alternating in goal twice each during the game. Both teams play again in Toronto tonight for the final time this regular season and a Swarm win can get the back within a game of first place and will break the Rock's four game winning streak against them.

Notes:

  • This the first doubleheader weekend of the season for the Swarm and it will be a quite a test to see if they can put behind last night's forgettable foray and comeback with even a respectable showing tonight.
  • The Swarm have only scored eleven goals in the last two games reminiscent of last year. Their goals per game average went from 13.0 to 11.5 by the end of the night.
  • The Swarm will need to spread out the Rock defense a bit more tonight to create openings to attack while the Swarm defense will have to wary of the Rock cutters and to scoop up more rebounds than the night before. Second and third shot clark restarts were common for the Rock on Friday night.
  • Look for Ian Crawford to make his NLL and Swarm debut tonight. If he and brother Callum play, it will be the first time in team history that brothers play for the Swarm in the same regular season or playoff game.
  • I see Zach Higgins in net tonight to start for the Swarm but after last night I think Head Coach Joe Sullivan will be ready with the quick hook.
  • Nick Rose may get the start tonight for Toronto. In Toronto's first and only doubleheader prior to this weekend, Rose got a start along with Brandon Miller even though with the way Miller was last night, I would be inclined to ride Miller tonight also.

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 13 Toronto Rock 11

Maybe being a bit too optimistic, but I do see the Swarm getting more than four goals tonight. No clear dominance by either team with the game decided in the fourth instead of second quarter. With many relatives in the ACC tonight for Swarm players, the team will feel much more at home than they ever do at The Hive even going so far as to meet the fans after the game. An inspired and redemptive performance tonight will see the Swarm to a weekend and season split with the Rock.
