The two teams have only met once since the Stealth moved to Vancouver to begin the 2014 season. In Vancouver's first ever home game, the Swarm were saddled with a 8-5 loss. This year, this is the only time the two teams will play.

Last Weekend:

The Swarm had the past weekend off but previously were swept in a home and home weekend series with the Toronto Rock. On February 13th, they were trounced at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at the Hive, 16-4, were they scored the least amount of goals in regular season team history. The following night they traveled to Toronto and did not fare much better in a 14-9 loss which saw Callum Crawford leave the game in the first quarter with a twisted ankle.

The Stealth saw their two-game winning streak end on Saturday night in Calgary as they became the first team to lose to the Roughnecks this season by a score of 16-13.

Notes:

  • What all Swarm fans may be wondering about is the availability of Callum Crawford? Crawford only played in the first quarter of the February 14th game in Toronto before twisting his ankle. The team decided to play it safe and he came out of the game. Nearly two weeks later, there is no update about his playing status but my hunch is that he will be in the lineup.
  • If Crawford is not available, Kiel Matisz will fill in for him coming up from the back end. Matisz did well in this regard when Crawford went down with 2 goals and 2 assists. To be able to have such a standout on both offense and defense who can be plug in any holes needed to be plugged like Matisz, is a nice commodity to have.
  • David Earl is eligible to come off the injured reserve list after hurting his shoulder in Jan. 24 game in New England. If he is activated, a player will have to come off the active roster to make room.
  • Look for Brodie MacDonald to get the start this weekend as he is from British Columbia, plays at Langley during the summer and finally showed some promised in relief of Zach Higgins in the Rock doubleheader.
  • Both Dean Hill and Shane MacDonald have rotated a game day roster spot for each of the last four days. If the pattern holds, Hill will play on Saturday night.
  • Jordan MacIntosh is fourth in the NLL with 78 loose balls
  • Zach Higgins is fifth in the NLL with 11.50 GAA & .777 save %
  • Last three games, goals scored: Swarm 20 Stealth 42
  • Former Stealth with the Swarm: Callum Crawford and Dean Hill
  • Former Swarm with the Stealth: Tyler Hass and Rory Smith
  • Former Swarm broadcaster and scout Jake Elliott is now the Stealth broadcaster
  • Rhys Duch is fifth in goals (20), seventh in assists (26) and sixth in pts in the NLL (46)
  • Both Duch and Tyler Digby are second in the NLL with 7 power play goals
  • The Stealth will lose some depth on defense as both Tyler Burton and Tyler Garrison were placed on injured reserve on this past Sunday and will not be eligible to come off by Saturday night
  • So far the August 13, 2014 Swarm-Stealth is a clear Stealth win. Tyler Hass has been a rock-solid transition player for the Stealth this season as he is much more at home in Vancouver. Even with Dane Stevens getting cut by the Stealth in camp, the Stealth still rule this trade as Mike Grimes did not report to the Swarm and does not look like he will ever, not to mention the draft pick the Swarm got is in the third round of the 2016 draft.

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 16 Vancouver Stealth 14

I sense this game will be a high-scoring late night tussle with a streak here or there to keep each team on their toes. The Swarm definitely need a great game to get back on track this season and Vancouver is just as inconsistent a team as the Swarm are. Coming off a week break and with another week off coming up, look for the Swarm to throw all their cards out on the table in this match up.
