The two teams met to start the regular season at The Hive. Even though up 10-9 entering the fourth quarter, the Swarm were routed 11-3 in the last stanza on their way to a 20-13 loss. Miles Thompson and Shayne Jackson led the Swarm with three goals each. The Mammoth have won four straight in the series. This will be the last time these two teams meet this year.

Last Weekend:

The Swarm played the night before at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive against the New England Black Wolves. Up 6-3 in the third quarter, the Black Wolves rallied in the second half for a 10-9 victory. Dean Hill had three goals to lead the Swarm who were without Callum Crawford and Logan Schuss. The Swarm have now lost four straight games which is the longest streak since 2012.

The Mammoth hosted the Toronto Rock on March 6th and were blacked out by a 17-9 score. John Grant was held without a goal with Adam Jones and Eli McLaughlin each getting two goals for Colorado. The Mammoth have lost five of six games after starting the season 3-0.

Notes:

  • This is first of three straight games for the Swarm on the road with trips to Buffalo and New England to follow to round out the month of March.
  • The Swarm's second goal of the night will be the team's 2,000 regular season goal in team history.
  • Logan Schuss was deactivated prior to yesterday's game and probably won't be available tonight. It is work-related and I figure with the way the games were scheduled this weekend, it caused issues with his employer. I expect him available for next weekend in Buffalo and going forward.
  • Injuries continue to pile up as Kiel Matisz injured his right arm in the second quarter of yesterday's game and did not return. I would expect him to miss tonight's at the very least. With Callum Crawford missing his second straight game due to an ankle and maybe tonight as well, the Swarm's even younger players are having to step up like Shane MacDonald, Sam Bradman and Patrick Miles.
  • Former Mammoth with the Swarm: Dean Hill
  • Former Swarm with the Mammoth - Dan Ball and Alex Turner
  • The Mammoth lead the NLL in attendance by over 1,000 per game this season at 14,912 per game.
  • Former Swarm Sean Pollock was released by the Mammoth this past Friday and is now a free agent. He was released as the Mammoth acquired Jeremy Noble, Jason Noble's twin brother, from the Knighthawks. Jeremy was drafted 2nd in the 2014 draft by the Knighthawks but Je. Noble did not report due to work commitments. Je. Noble will make his NLL debut on Sunday night and the Noble brothers will play each other for the first time in the NLL.
  • John Grant has made it a career in carving up the Swarm. In 22 regular season games, he has 68 goals and 81 assists for 149 points. All those categories of stats are the most against the Swarm in their history except games where he his second.

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 11 Colorado Mammoth 10

Just like last night, the two teams playing tonight have been losing more than winning of late, so one of these teams will get back to winning for at least one game. Even with last night's loss, I think the group that played did pretty well considering and with a game together in hand, will do even better tonight. They do have a big test against John Grant, Adam Jones and the very vocal and hostile enemy crowd to overcome but I think they can scrap and fight through for a very much need victory.
