The Swarm and Bandits will be playing in the second of three games in the season series. The Bandits won the first game in Buffalo on January 30th jumping out to a 11-3 halfime lead and then holding on for 15-12 win.
The Bandits have won six straight against the Swarm in Buffalo and if they win Saturday night, they will clinch the season series and an extremely critical playoff tiebreaker as they currently hold the third and last playoff spot in the East Division.
BASICALLY, THE SWARM MUST WIN TO KEEP ANY REALISTIC PLAYOFF CHANCES ALIVE. LOSE AND THEY WILL NEED THE MOTHER OF ALL MIRACLES TO OCCUR TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
Last Weekend:
The Swarm had a tough weekend last week as they lost to New England at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive by a 10-9 last Saturday and then the following night in Colorado to the Mammoth by a 12-8. Zach Higgins had 81 saves over the weekend and Jordan MacIntosh led the Swarm with four goals and five assists. The loss to New England was very tough as Kiel Matisz went down with a right arm injury, they gave up the lead going into the fourth quarter and now are tied
in the season series with the fourth place Black Wolves.
The Bandits also played two games last weekend, both against the East Division leading Toronto Rock. The Bandits won at home last Friday against the Rock 15-12 but the two teams went to Toronto the next night, with the Rock winning 11-10 in overtime. Former Swarm Ryan Benesch had six goals and eight assists in the two games last weekend for the Bandits.
Notes:
- The Swarm have lost five straight games which is the second straight year they have lost five games in a row during the season. They also have lost four straight on the road after winning their first two on the road to start the season.
- The Swarm have eight games left. They have two each, one at home and one on the road, against division rivals Rochester, Buffalo and New England, the three teams the Swarm are chasing for a playoff spot. They have five of eight and their last four at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive. The Swarm probably need to win all their games against Buffalo and New England, one of the games against Rochester and one of the two against West Division teams Calgary and Edmonton to have a realistic chance to make the playoffs at least.
- According to Assistant Head Coach Aime Caines on Wednesday's NLL Media Call, Callum Crawford is day to day with his lower body (ankle) injury.
- No word yet on the availability of Kiel Matisz, who missed last Sunday's game in Colorado after getting injured Saturday night against New England.
- Jordan MacIntosh needs four points to reach 200 in his NLL and Swarm career. He is tied for fifth in goals in team history with 86 with Chad Culp, who he faces on Saturday night. He is fifth in the NLL with 120 face off wins and third with 105 loose balls.
- Former Swarm on the Bandits: Ryan Benesch, Andrew Watt, Chad Culp and Jay Thorimbert
- Ryan Benesch is fifth in the NLL with 65 points and tied for first in the NLL with 33 goals. He also is third in the NLL with 3 short handed goals
- Dhane Smith is sixth in the NLL with 65 points, eighth in the NLL with 26 goals and fifth in the NLL with 39 assists
- Jay Thorimbert leads the league with 149 loose balls and 218 face off wins
- Steve Priolo is tenth in the NLL with 68 loose balls
- Alex Kedoh Hill is fourth in the NLL with 20 forced turnovers
- John Tavares did not play in the game on January 30th against the Swarm, but he probably will on Saturday and he has done well against the Swarm. In 20 regular season games, he has 42 goals and 65 assists.
- Mark Steenhuis has also done well in his career against the Swarm. In 23 regular season games, he has 41 goals and 47 assists.
- Buffalo has six games left. Five of the games are against the teams chasing them for the third and final playoff spot. Two against the Swarm and three against the Black Wolves. Three of those games are in Buffalo and add in another home game against Vancouver, the Bandits have a very favorable schedule to finish the season.
Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 13 Buffalo Bandits 12
