Game Notes

  • Miles Thompson definitely was the number one star of the game with four goals. It will be tough to get four every night but he sure looks like someone who can get that regularly. He definitely works well with Callum Crawford already, so we may have a deadly 1-2 punch on the right side. Thompson clearly is the #2 guy on that side with #1 potential.
  • We can't say for certain who will start the regular season opener at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive on January 3rd but after tonight both Brodie MacDonald and Zach Higgins made the decision much tougher in a positive way as both were fantastic in net tonight. Each faced Dan Dawson, Craig Point, Gavin Prout and Jordan Hall as those offensive threats played the entire game and only got four goals combined.
  • The announcers said that Shane MacDonald was limping in the second quarter and was not dressed by the end of that quarter. It also looks like Andrew Suitor was given the night off before the end of the second quarter but that may be to keep him fresh for the game against Calgary and his arch-enemy Geoff Snider.
  • Jordan MacIntosh started slowly but as usual he got himself straightened out by the time the big third quarter rally came around. He just seems to have boundless energy and as usual he shows he does everything well.
  • Other players that stood out in a good way in my opinion were Ethan O'Connor, Eric Guiltinan, Patrick Miles and Dominique Alexander. The team played rather well tonight despite only coming together for the first time on Friday night. Chemistry issues on the field can be expected and some of the play was out of sync, but not as much as one would figure.
  • For a first weekend of camp, the Swarm sure have set up a grueling schedule. After the game in Rochester, they had to bus back to Oakville for tomorrow's game against Calgary. I presume they got back around midnight in Oakville time and will go out to booze it up, I mean get some sleep. Meanwhile, Calgary stayed in Oakville Saturday night as they beat Toronto 14-5 about an hour earlier than the finish of the Swarm game. Unlike the Swarm, the Roughnecks did have four-hour round trip bus ride to Rochester like the Swarm and we will follow on twitter to find out if that could be an issue in tomorrow's game.
  • No word on why the players that did not dress were not playing. From what I can gather, maybe only Jason Noble was at the game but that is just speculation on my part with no basis of truth. Noble did get hurt during the World Field Lacrosse Championships and did not play the rest of the MLL season after that, so maybe that injury is lingering a bit. The Swarm know what they have in Noble and maybe willing to rest him so he is 100% for the regular season opener.
