Game Notes

Friday night, both the Minnesota Swarm and Rochester Knighthawks had their defenses dialed in against each other as regulation ended tied at six at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive with 9,645 watching live and in person. Overtime is where one can make memories as the game's intensity rises to heart-stopping levels and that usually sees the best of best rise up. That is exactly what happened 2:21 into overtime for the Swarm as their leading scorer Callum "Showtime" Crawford ripped a laser from just inside the restraining line for the game winner for the hometown team with a 7-6 victory. Logan Schuss led the Swarm with three goals which all were tallied in the second quarter. Shayne Jackson and Miles Thompson opened the scoring for the Swarm in the first quarter and Andrew Suitor tied it up in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime. Like I said, defense was prevalent and ever present and Swarm goaltender Zach Higgins continued his great start to the 2015 season with 34 saves on 40 shots on net.

  • Callum Crawford's overtime game winning goal is his 200th in his NLL career. This is Crawford's second overtime goal for the Swarm as his first was on March 23, 2014 at The Hive against Buffalo. It is his seventh game winning goal as a member of the Swarm which ties him with Ryan Benesch and Sean Pollock for most game winners in Swarm history.
  • The Swarm are 12-10 all time in overtime
  • Logan Schuss' three first half goals tripled the amount of points he had in the first half in his first three games this season
  • The 9,645 in attendance at The Hive is the highest since 12,214 attended the April 20, 2013 game against Colorado
  • Shayne Jackson appeared hurt limping off the field in overtime and did not take a victory lap. We definitely want to keep an eye on Jackson and hope it is not a serious injury.
  • Shane MacDonald dressed for the first time since the home opener.
  • The one first half goal given up by the Swarm is the second least given up in the first half in team history. On February 8, 2008, the Swarm shutout the New York Titans in the first half of that game en route to 16-9 victory at The Hive.
  • Only four times in Swarm history has the team shutout their opponents in two of the four quarters of the game:
    • 02/08/08: First & Second Quarters vs. New York Titans in 16-9 victory at The Hive
    • 01/10/09: First & Fourth Quarters vs. San Jose Stealth in 10-7 victory at The Hive
    • 03/31/12: Third & Fourth Quarters vs. Edmonton Rush in 9-8 OT loss in Edmonton
    • 02/06/15: Second & Fourth Quarters vs. Rochester Knighthawks in 7-6 OT victory at The Hive
  • The seven goals in the win for the Swarm ties the record for least goals in a win in team history along with the game on February 3rd, 2006 which the Swarm won 7-6 in Edmonton against the Rush
  • The Swarm improve to 2-1 in division play this year so far and with a sweep over Toronto next weekend they would be in first place in the East Division.
  • The Swarm have two games remaining against Rochester, the first on April 4th in Rochester and season finale on May 2nd at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive.
