Dean Hill Back in Blue and Gold

September 11, 2014

The last we saw Dean Hill was on February 6, 2009 when he scored a goal and assisted on two. He was traded to Rochester with Craig Point for Aaron Wilson two weeks later in a surprising move. Five years later, Hill is back as he was one of four players signed by the Swarm today. Also signed are Sam Bradman, Zach Palmer and Ian Crawford

The Swarm signed the following player to an two-year contracts:

  • T - Sam Bradman - Drafted in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft with the 24th overall pick, Bradman has only played in one pre-season game in 2012 when he scored two goals against Rochester. Bradman has had other lacrosse priorities during Swarm seasson like LXM Pro but it looks like he will go through the entire training camp scene to try to make a very crowded group of righthanded transition players.

The Swarm signed the following players to one-year contracts:

  • F - Dean Hill - Free Agent Sigining - 2 GP 1g 2a 2 LB with Colorado in 2014 - (2006-09 Swarm) - Like I mentioned, Hill is back. Taken in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, Hill was a steal for the Swarm with the 48th overall pick. He made his NLL and Swarm debut in spectacular fashion on April 9, 2006 when he scored four goals to lead the Swarm tp a 9-8 OT win over the San Jose Stealth at The Hive. His first full season was in 2007 and he set a team record with 32 goals in that season. His capability of being able to quick stick a goal on the crease by the goaltender is well-known in league circles. During his first run with the Swarm, Hill had 49 goals and 41 assists. He is tenth overall in goals in team history and twelfth in points. He suffered an injury that ended his 2008 early and he struggled to start 2009 which made him and Point, who also had a slow start that season, expendable in the trade to bring Wilson to Minnesota. He has spent time since the trade with Rochester, Edmonton, Washington and Colorado. He has 117g 108a 204 LB in 85 regular season games and has 7g 5a 15 LB in six playoff games including a goal and assist for the Swarm in the loss to Buffalo in 2007. With Josh Gillam probably out for 2015 due to an ACL injury, bringing in the veteran Hill will be a big boost to the offense and free up Logan Schuss and Shayne Jackson to roam for open space for good shots.

  • F - Zach Palmer - Palmer will try to make the active roster this upcoming season after spending hte entire 2014 season on the practice roster. He also is a lefty forward and will potentially compete for the third spot on the side with Hill and probably with any lefty forward the Swarm may draft for a fourth spot on the side.

  • D - Ian Crawford - Free Agent Signing - Callum Crawford's older brother is making his second attempt to make the Swarm as he was in training camp with the team leading up to the 2013 season. Depth on defense is not deep so Crawford may have a better chance to make the roster this year in comparision with the 2013 team. As of today, Crawford is the oldest player on the the team at 31, which is two years older than his brother, Hill and Greg Downing.
