Game Notes

The Minnesota Swarm were down to the last of men and supplies on Saturday night but in the end could not withstand the fierce siege of the Buffalo Bandits taking away the last chance for 2015 playoff glory with a 12-9 win over the Swarm in front of 8,986 at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive. With first half injuries felling both Jordan MacIntosh (possibly season ending) and Callum Crawford, the Swarm were down to the proverbial one leg to stand on. Down 5-0 early, the Swarm began to claw back behind Shayne Jackson, who scored a career high five goals and got back within 8-7 early in the third quarter, but they couldn't quite get the rest of way there and will be missing the playoffs for the second straight season. Irregardless, the Swarm still have three games to go, all at The Hive, which they can ruin the well-being of other teams starting with the Calgary Roughnecks next Saturday night.

  • Shayne Jackson is the only player to have a four goal and a five goal game this season for the Swarm.
  • Brodie MacDonald relieved Zach Higgins after Dhane Smith's goal made it 4-0 Buffalo in the first quarter. MacDonald faced one shot seventeen seconds off the ensuing face off as Mitchell Jones scored his first goal of the season in his first game of the season. MacDonald was immediately pulled and Higgins finished the rest of the game.
  • The Swarm got their only power play goal of the game in the second quarter as Johnny Powless scored unassisted. In their last six games, the Swarm have went 2 for 26 on the power play. They went 1 for 6 on Saturday night and gave up two shorthanded goals to former Swarm players Chad Culp and Ryan Benesch.
  • The Swarm's four game home winning streak against the Bandits was snapped.
  • David Earl scored his first goal since the season opener on Saturday night after missing seven games due to injury.
  • Jordan MacIntosh's lower body injury appears to be lower left leg as he immediately dropped to the ground after the injury. It didn't appear to be caused by an opponent. He needed two Swarm players to carry him off the floor and my hunch is it is season ending. If so, his 69 game consecutive game streak will end after tonight, leaving him second to Noah Talbot's 75 game streak. MacIntosh's injury affects Corbyn Tao quite a bit as he will be the main face off guy and his shifts on offense will increase greatly. No word yet if Kiel Matisz, who should be eligible to come injured reserve, will play against Calgary on April 18th. If not, Tao will figure prominently in the Swarm plans on that night.
