January 2007 Updates

December 2006 | Current Month | Other Months | February 2007

  • 01/29/07 - Preview: Swarm at LumberJax

The Minnesota Swarm will arrive in Portland on a two-game losing streak after losing in Calgary to the Roughnecks, 15-14 on Saturday, January 27th. Ryan Ward (7g 14a) led the Swarm with four goals and six assists.

  • 01/27/07 - Review: Swarm 14 Roughnecks 15

The Minnesota Swarm were looking to regroup after the clobbering in Buffalo last weekend. They most definitely played much better but they fell to the Calgary Roughnecks in the end, 15-14 in front of 11,462 in Calgary. The dagger applied to the Swarm was in the form of four short-handed goals scored by the Roughnecks.

  • 01/26/07 - Preview: Swarm at Roughnecks

The Minnesota Swarm will arrive in Calgary after splitting two games last weekend. The Swarm won the first game at home against the Rochester Knighthawks 11-10 last Friday. This was the first victory at home in the month of January in the Swarm’s history. The next night saw the Swarm travel to Buffalo to play the Bandits. The Bandits were not gracious hosts as they pummeled the Swarm 22-13.

  • 01/20/07 - Review: Swarm 13 Bandits 22

The Minnesota Swarm know what the French felt in 1940 as the Germans blitzkrieged through Paris. Tonight in front of 12,883 extremely happy fans, the Buffalo Bandits (2-2) routed the Swarm (1-2) 22-13. The league’s all-time scoring leader, John Tavares, had three goals and ten assists to lead the massacre at HSBC Arena. In addition, the Bandits burned the Swarm on the power play going nine for nine. The twenty-two goals is not a record for goals given up by the Swarm. They gave up twenty-three to the Bandits on March 11th, 2005 in a 23-16 loss in St. Paul.

  • 01/19/07 - Review: Swarm 11 Knighthawks 10

The Minnesota Swarm (1-1) started their two-game weekend in rousing fashion last night with an 11-10 win over the Rochester Knighthawks (2-2) at the Xcel Energy Center. In front of 8,174, the Swarm’s Dean Hill tied the game at 10 and Scott Stewart notched the game winner with 2:29 left in the game.

  • 01/19/07 - Preview: Swarm at Bandits

The Swarm will visit Buffalo after playing at the Xcel Energy Center the night before against the Rochester Knighthawks. This will be the first time these two teams have met since last year’s first round playoff game in Buffalo, which the Bandits won 11-10 on April 23rd, 2006. Head Coach Duane Jacobs was an assistant with Buffalo in that game. The Bandits went on to the Champions Cup where they lost to the Colorado Mammoth 16-9.

  • 01/18/07 - Preview: Swarm vs. Knighthawks

The Minnesota Swarm started their season last Saturday, January 13th in disappointing fashion by losing to the expansion Chicago Shamrox 11-10 at the Xcel Energy Center. The Swarm have yet to win a home opener and have went 0-6 at home in the month of January in their three year history. This weekend they will play Rochester at home on Friday and travel to Buffalo to play the Bandits on Saturday.

  • 01/17/07 - Ashton McLean Signs with the Swarm

The Swarm sign defenseman Ashton McLean to an one-year contract. McLean was drafted by Rochester in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft but released in training camp. He will be replacing Eric Perkins on the roster after Perkins made his NLL debut and swan song against Chicago last weekend.

The Swarm brought back Neil Doddridge to be a scout and and also hired Mike Lines as a scout in the East. Doddridge is a long time veteran of the NLL and finished his career with the Swarm in the inaugural 2005 season. He was the first player signed by the Swarm in team history. Lines was a scout for Buffalo last year and coaches for the Niagara Thunderhawks of the OLA Jr B. Lines played junior lacrosse with the St. Catharines Athletics winning a Minto Cup in 1990.

  • 01/13/07 - Review: Swarm 10 Shamrox 11

In front of the record home opening crowd of 10,544, the Minnesota Swarm were outscored 5-2 in the fourth quarter and fell to the Chicago Shamrox 11-10 on Saturday Night. The Swarm, with the loss, falls to 0-1 and a fourth place tie in the East Division with the Toronto Rock.

  • 01/12/07 - Preview: Swarm vs. Shamrox

The Minnesota Swarm are the last team to start their regular season as they take on the expansion Chicago Shamrox. The Swarm are 1-1 in regular season openers; however, they’re 0-2 in home openers and have never won at home in the month of January. Meanwhile, the Shamrox won their regular season opener on January 6th, 15-12, over fellow expansion rival, the New York Titans at their home at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

  • 01/11/07 - NLL Weekly Coaches Call

Both head coaches, Duane Jacobs of the Swarm and Jamie Batley of the Shamrox are interviewed by Fritts and various members of the media. Howard Green, the Swarm's broadcaster for B2 games represented the Minnesota media.

  • 01/10/07 - Star Tribune: Lacrosse More Than Just A Game

  • 01/08/07 - Summerfield Released to Make Room for Perkins

Shawn Summerfield was ready to go for the Swarm opener at The Hive against the Chicago Shamrox but he was released today in order to for the Swarm to sign Eric Perkins so he can play to raise money for Courage Center.

It doesn't look like Perkins gets an extra roster spot. From game to game, Summerfield is on the edge of playing or not playing and probably will be re-signed after the game. Still, I think this can be considered a special case by the league which doesn't require Summerfield being released. I guess no matter what the occasion, the rules are the rules.

  • 01/03/07 - Schedule Change for Rock Game at The Hive

The Minnesota Swarm announced that the home game originally scheduled on March 24th at 10:30 pm as a part of a Swarm-Mild Doubleheader has been moved to Friday, March 23rd at 7:00 pm.
