January 2007 | Current Month | Other Months | March 2007

  • 02/24/07 - Review 2/24/07: Swarm 19 Shamrox 11

The Minnesota Swarm (5-3) continued their winning ways with a 19-11 victory over the Chicago Shamrox (3-5) in front of 6,101 hearty souls who braved a blizzard to watch lacrosse on Saturday night. The win is the Swarm’s fourth in a row and puts the team in second place in the Eastern Division.

  • 02/22/07 - Preview 2/24/07: Swarm at Shamrox

The game in Chicago this weekend is a tale of two elevators. Traveling on the up elevator, is the Minnesota Swarm, who have won three straight including a sweep of a home and home series against the New York Titans this past weekend. The three game winning streak is the longest in team history. Ryan Ward (11g 28a) had 14 points over the weekend followed by Sean Pollock (9g 17a) with 13 and the newly acquired Mike Hominuck (13g 23a) with 12.

On the opposite elevator going down is the expansion Chicago Shamrox. They are in the midst of a three game losing streak. In their last two games, the Shamrox have lost by one goal in each. Last Sunday, the Shamrox lost 11-10 to the Toronto Rock after leading 8-4 at halftime.

  • 02/22/07 - Cousins and Ward to Represent Swarm at All-Star Game

The 2007 NLL All-Star Game will be in Portland on March 10th and the Swarm will have two representatives.

The first is Captain Ryan Cousins who will be making his third consecutive All-Star appearance. Cousins has represented the Swarm in each of the three seasons of Swarm lacrosse. Cousins has 5g, 5a and 50 LB in seven games this season.

Ryan Ward will be joining Cousins in Portland to represent the Swarm in the All-Star game. This will be Ward's first All-Star appearance. He is the Swarm's leading scorer this year with 11g 28a and 22 LB in seven games.

  • 02/18/07 - Review 2/18/07: Swarm 17 Titans 14

I heard someone say once, “Always make a good first impression”. That someone had to be talking about Minnesota Swarm lefthanded forward Mike Hominuck. Acquired in a trade on February 6th from Portland, Hominuck made his Swarm debut this weekend in a home and home series against the New York Titans. After scoring five goals and an assist Saturday night in the Big Apple, Hominuck thrilled the 9,056 home town fans with two goals and four assists to help lead the Swarm to a 17-14 victory last night against the Titans.

  • 02/17/07 - Review 2/17/17: Swarm 15 Titans 14

Never a dull moment was seen at Madison Square Garden in front of 7,026 Titan faithfuls as the Minnesota Swarm’s Sean Pollock finishes off the New York Titans with 35 seconds to go to give the Swarm a 15-14 victory. The Swarm came back from 11-10 to start the fourth as five different Swarm, including Pollock, notched a goal to see the Swarm prevail win.

  • 02/16/07 - Preview 2/18/07: Swarm vs Titans

The Swarm and Titans finish the home and home series this weekend at The Hive on Sunday. The Swarm will finally return home after a three game road trip having last played at The Hive in an 11-10 win over Rochester on January 19th.

  • 02/15/07 - Preview 2/17/07: Swarm at Titans

Both the Swarm and the Titans meet in a home and home series this weekend starting on Saturday. Last weekend, both teams had the weekend off. This is the first meeting between both teams as New York along with Chicago are in their first year of operation. The Swarm will play at Madison Square Garden for their first time in team history.

  • 02/09/07 - Swarm Acquire Sharp for for Two Draft Picks from the LumberJax

The Swarm and LumberJax keep on talking and trading this week as the Swarm acquired defender Ryan Sharp from Portland for one of their two first round picks in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft and a third rounder in 2008. Rory McDade was released to make room for Sharp on the roster.

  • 02/05/07 - Swarm Acquire Hominuck for Hall from LumberJax

The Minnesota Swarm and Portland LumberJax have supposedly traded lefty forwards with the Swarm sending Kelly Hall to the LumberJax for Mike Hominuck. It should move Hall closer to his home in Victoria, BC while helping out the Ontario native Hominuck with travel in the East Division.

  • 02/02/07 - Review 2/2/07: Swarm 11 LumberJax 8

In a battle of dueling losing streaks, the Minnesota Swarm end theirs and continue the Portland LumberJax’s with a 11-8 victory in Portland in front of 6,281 flannel-clad LumberJax supporters. After giving up 37 goals during their two-game losing streak, the Swarm (2-3) looked like the team many figure they would. Strong defense and spectacular goaltending by Nick Patterson, who made 41 saves on 49 shots, helped extend the LumberJax (2-4) losing streak to four. This is the Swarm’s first road victory of the year after losing their first two.
