March 2007 Updates

February 2007 | Current Month | Other Months | April 2007

  • 03/31/07 - Review 3/31/07: Swarm 9 Mammoth 11

The Minnesota Swarm were very physical with the NLL defending champion Colorado Mammoth last night but were not able to close the deal in a 11-9 loss. In front of 10,114 at the Xcel Energy Center, the Swarm led 8-7 going into the fourth quarter, but were playing with only sixteen of the starting eighteen by that time, both on defense. Riley Kemp hurt himself earlier in the game, while Michael Kilby was ejected for fighting after the whistle with the Mammoth’s Jim Moss. Colorado took advantage and prevailed in the end.

  • 03/29/07 - Preview 3/31/07: Swarm Vs Mammoth

Both the Swarm and defending National Lacrosse League champion Mammoth will meet on Saturday, in the NLL 1,000th regular season game, after being on the losing end of their games last weekend. The Swarm lost 13-6 at home against the Toronto Rock on Friday, March 23. Dean Hill (21g 12a) and Scott Stewart (12g 17a) scored two goals each to lead the Swarm. The loss dropped the Swarm one game behind the second-place Buffalo Bandits in the East. The Bandits have already won the tiebreaker between the teams so in theory the Swarm are two games behind the Bandits for a chance to host a first round playoff game.

  • 03/23/07 - Review 3/23/07: Swarm 6 Rock 13

After having won five of their last six, the Minnesota Swarm were as flat as soda after it losing its carbonation as they lost Friday night, 13-6, to the Toronto Rock in front of 8,184 at the Xcel Energy Center. Ryan Ward led the Swarm with four assists and Scott Stewart and Dean Hill scored two goals each, with Stewart getting also getting an assist.

  • 03/22/07 - Preview 3/23/07: Swarm Vs Rock

The Minnesota Swarm got back to winning last Sunday with an 11-9 victory over the Philadelphia Wings at the Xcel Energy Center. Kasey Beirnes (17g 13a) scored four goals and Chad Culp (5g 12a) had a season best three goals and two assists. The Toronto Rock struggled this past weekend as they lost two games against Western Division opponents. Last Friday, they lost in Edmonton to the Rush 12-9, then came home the following night to lose 13-12 in overtime to the NLL champion Colorado Mammoth. The Rock enter the game on Friday with a four game losing streak.

  • 03/21/07 - Miyashita on IR, Ross Comes Back

According to Pointstreak, Mark Miyashita is not on the active roster anymore. He is on injured reserve after suffering that torn ACL or whatever it was on Sunday. He is being replaced on the roster by Kyle Ross, who is being activated from the practice roster.

Mark has had a great season this year and there is no doubt this will be big setback to him and to the Swarm. He has established him as one of the top four on draws in the league and has been a vacuum on loose balls. Now, Andrew Biers and Travis Hill will have to step up to replace Mark on draws. I am confident that both will do well.

My best wishes to Mark for a speedy recovery and that you also keep up your spirits!!! I and many others want to see you back next year!!!!

With Mark on IR, the Swarm activated Kyle Ross from the practice roster. Maybe not the way Kyle wanted to make the roster, but nonetheless, Kyle has finally cracked the 23 man roster. Kyle is a 23 year old defenseman who can work both sides of the floor. He has good size at 6' 1" 190 lbs. and isn't afraid to be physical for example in this photo, ie. Kyle Ross is 20. He was drafted by the Swarm in 2004 in the fifth round and plays with Matt Disher in New Westminster during the summer. He is one of only two Swarm entry draft picks in their history that are on the team at this time, with the other being Dean Hill. He will wear #20 for the Swarm. Congratulations on making the show, Kyle!!!

  • 03/18/07 - Review 3/18/07: Swarm 11 Wings 9

The Minnesota Swarm were supposed to play two games this past weekend against the Philadelphia Wings but due to weather issues that postponed Saturday night’s game in Philadelphia, the Swarm still swept the weekend with a 11-9 victory on Sunday night in front of 7,524 fans at the Xcel Energy Center.

  • 03/17/07 - Swarm Game in Philadephia Cancelled

Tonight's game in Philadelphia for the Swarm against the Wings was cancelled due to inclement weather aka a blizzard. The game will be reschuduled for Friday, April 13th in Philadelphia. The two teams still play each other on Sunday at The Hive.

  • 03/15/07 - Preview 3/18/07: Swarm Vs Wings

This is an extremely pivotal weekend coming out of the All-Star break as the Swarm and Wings engage in a home and home series. If either team can sweep, they will have greatly increased their chances of being playoff bound while delivering a damaging blow to the other team’s playoff chances.

  • 03/15/07 - Preview 3/17/07: Swarm at Wings

The Minnesota Swarm had their four game winning streak ended by the Buffalo Bandits on Sunday, March 4, 16-15, at the Xcel Energy Center. Dean Hill (19g 12a) led the Swarm with five goals and three assists. The result switched the Swarm to third and the Bandits to second in the East Division.

The Philadelphia Wings lost at home to the East Division leading Rochester Knighthawks, 14-13, on Saturday, March 3. The loss was the third in a row for the Wings.

  • 03/12/07 - Taylor Traded to Toronto

Original Swarm Jamie Taylor has had a quiet 2007 season. He hasn't even dressed in a game even though he is thought to be in good health. Well, if he does get in a game this season it will be in Toronto as the Swarm traded him to the Rock for a fourth round pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. Taylor played 30 games for the Swarm all in 2005 and 2006 with 17g and 41a. He scored three game winners for the Swarm including their first two overtime wins. He also had a goal and three assists against Buffalo in last year's playoff game.

The Swarm have re-signed Rory McDade to take Taylor's place on the left side of the offense. McDade was released earlier this season when Ryan Sharp was acquired. In two games, McDade has 2a and 5 LB.

  • 03/10/07 - Cousins and Ward Lead the East to Victory

Ryan Cousins with two assists and Ryan Ward helped lead the East to a 20-16 victory over the West in today's 2007 All-Star Game in Portland.

  • 03/04/07 - Review 3/4/07: Swarm 15 Bandits 16

The Minnesota Swarm’s four-game winning streak came to an end to their usual thorn in a side, the Buffalo Bandits, by a score of 16-15 in front of 7,504 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Swarm (5-4) to third place as the Bandits (6-4) take over second going into next Saturday’s All-Star Game in Portland. Second year player Dean Hill led the Swarm with a career high five goals and three assists and Sean Pollock added two goals and six assists. Buffalo was led once again by the league’s all-time leading scorer and Swarm killer, John Tavares, who had five goals and four assists.

  • 03/02/07 - Preview 3/4/07: Swarm vs Bandits

The Swarm enter Sunday’s game against the Bandits on a team record four game winning streak, with three of those wins on the road. Last Saturday night, the Swarm scored a team record nineteen goals in a 19-11 victory over the Chicago Shamrox in Chicago. Ryan Ward (14g 34a) led the team in scoring with three goals and six assists. The Swarm will be looking to avenge a harrowing 22-13 loss to the Bandits early this season in Buffalo.
