The Minnesota Swarm (5-7) continued their losing ways at home as they were outscored 6-2 in the fourth quarter in their 13-10 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks (9-3) on March 28 at the Xcel Energy Center. This was their first home game since February 20 but it ended with the same result a loss, their fourth straight at home and seventh in their last eight home games dating back to last season. With the win, the Roughnecks became the first team in the NLL to clinch a playoff spot.

  • 03/24/09 - The Swarm Still Can't Solve the Mammoth

The Minnesota Swarm (5-6) started out with a 4-0 lead but their penalty kill and the momentum of the Colorado Mammoth (6-5) crowd could not be stemmed as the Mammoth came back to win 13-11 on Sunday, March 22 in Denver. The loss for the Swarm ended their three game winning streak. This was the last game of the season long five game road trip for the Swarm and they finished with a 3-2 record. The Mammoth with the win have swept the season series against the Swarm and own the head to head tiebreaker.

  • 03/19/09 - The Swarm Make Deadline Moves
The NLL trading and free agent signing deadlines passed this week and the Swarm made some moves leading up to it.

The Swarm sent Keith Cromwell to the New York Titans for a conditional second round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft. The Swarm acquired Cromwell last year along with Dan Marohl from the Philadelphia Wings on March 4, 2008 for A.J. Shannon and a draft pick. Cromwell played four games with the Swarm last year, scoring five goals and five assists. This year, the Swarm placed Cromwell on the protected player list due to work committments that prevented Cromwell from playing. The trade to New York gets Cromwell much closer to home and more able to play.

The Swarm placed Darren Halls on the injured reserve list. It appears his injury occured on February 20, 2008 against the Boston Blazers at the X, when he went down along the boards in the second quarter with what looked to be an injury to his knee. Halls has not played since. It appears this will be the second straight season that Halls' season ends with injury.

To replace Halls, the Swarm signed Ian Rubel to an one year contract. He was acquired at the 2008 trade deadline from the Toronto Rock and got two assists in three games and played in the playoffs last year for the Swarm. Rubel was placed on the protected player list to start the season for the Swarm due to work committments, just like Cromwell.

Finally, the Swarm signed Brad Favero to the practice roster. Favero started the season on the practice roster but was signed to the active roster on February 21, 2009. He played that night in Philadelphia against the Wings scoring his first NLL goal and assisting on two others. After that game, Favero was released to make room on the roster for Rory McDade.

  • 03/17/09 - The Swarm Ma-Rohl the Wings
Dan Marohl scored the game winner with his patented Air Marohl move with 4.4 seconds to lead the Minnesota Swarm (5-5) to a 13-12 victory over the Philadelphia Wings (4-7) on Saturday, March 14 in Philadelphia. For Marohl, the game winning goal is his third of the year and second straight. For the Swarm, they have now won three straight and are now 3-1 on their five game road trip.
  • 03/11/09 - Mark Miyashita Released by the Swarm
Defenseman Mark Miyashita was released by the Minnesota Swarm on Thursday from the injured reserve list. Miyashita was placed on the IR on March 6, 2008 after reinjuring the same knee which ended his 2007 season. Miyashita joined the Swarm at the beginning of the 2006 season. He played in 24 games for the Swarm scoring eight goals and eighteen assists. He also has won the most face offs in Swarm history with 247. He will be remembered for scoring the game winner goal in the "Chips & Guac" game on April 1, 2006 at the Xcel Energy Center when the Swarm came back from a 9-2 defecit in the third quarter to beat the Toronto Rock, 10-9.
  • 03/11/09 - Preview: Minnesota Swarm at Philadelphia Wings
The Minnesota Swarm (4-5) will return for the second time within a month to Philadelphia to play the Wings (4-6) on Saturday, March 14. In the first game against the two teams, the Wings started fast and held on to beat the Swarm, 13-12. The Swarm have won two straight while the Wings have won two of three. Game time is at 6:30 pm Central and can be viewed at Swarm Vision Live.
