  • 08/27/09 - Caines and Sullivan Named Assistan Head Coaches for the Minnesota Swarm

    Aime Caines

    Joe Sullivan

The Minnesota Swarm announced that they have hired Aime Caines and Joe Sullivan as new assistant head coaches for the upcoming 2010 season.

Caines is a former NLL player of five years (2001 - 2005) in Montreal, Columbus and Buffalo. As a righthanded forward, Caines scored 52 goals and 58 assists in 59 games. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Caines has lived in St. Paul, Minnesota for the past year. He was an assistant for the University of Minnesota Club Lacrosse Team in 2009 and has worked for Homegrown Lacrosse with Colin Achenbach. This is Caines' first position as a coach in the NLL.

Sullivan is arriving in Minnesota after having been an assistant in Chicago in 2008 and in Toronto in 2009. He has also been an assitant with the Peterborough Lakers of the MSL for numerous years, having won Mann Cups in 2006 & 2007.

Derek Moffat will not be returning to the Swarm as assistant for the 2010 season.

The Minnesota Swarm will participate in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft on Wednesday, September 9 in Buffalo, New York at 6:00 pm CST. A live webcast of the draft should be available at NLL.com. The Swarm have seven picks as of now in the draft (including two in the first round):

    1. Round 1 Pick 3
    2. Round 1 Pick 9
    3. Round 2 Pick 13
    4. Round 2 Pick 23
    5. Round 4 Pick 36
    6. Round 5 Pick 44
    7. Round 6 Pick 54

The Swarm with the third pick in a very deep draft may be looking at players like Garrett Billings, Cliff Smith, Ilija Gajic, Zack Greer and Joel Dalgarno to join the team. Jay Thorimbert

The Minnesota Swarm acquire forward Jay Thorimbert from the Boston Blazers today for a second round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft. Thorimbert, 23, just finished his rookie season in the NLL scoring five goals and seven assists for the Blazers in 2009. Another draw, so to speak, for acquiring Thorimbert for the Swarm is his face off prowess. In his rookie season, Thorimbert won 217 of his 372 draws (58%). With Travis Hill most likely out for the 2010 season due to an ACL injury suffered in summer ball, Thorimbert is the leading candidate for face off duty in 2010.

    • 08/06/09 - Mike Lines becomes the Fourth Head Coach in Minnesota Swarm history

The Minnesota Swarm promote Mike Lines from assistant to Head Coach. Lines becomes the fourth head coach in Minnesota Swarm history. He has been an assistant for the Swarm for the past two seasons under former Swarm Head Coach Duane Jacobs. This is Lines' first NLL head coaching position.
