    • 09/25/09 - Chad Culp Will Be a Waltzing Matilda

      Chad Culp will be the bloke representing the Minnesota Swarm in the NLL All-Star Series in Melbourne, Australia on October 23rd and 24th. There will be two games that will comprise All=Stars from all eleven National Lacrosse League teams and top players from Australia.

    • 09/24/09 - The Swarm acquire Sean Thomson from the Wings

      The Minnesota Swarm acquired forward Sean Thomason from the Phiadelphia Wings for forward Kevin Colleluori and a third round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft.

      Sean Thomson is a right handed forward entering his second year of NLL play. The 24 year old, 6' 2" 220 lbs from Burlington, Ontario was drafted by the Wings with the ninth pick in the first round of the 2008 Entry Draft. He played in seven games in 2009 scoring five goals and assist; however, his season ended prematurely due to concussion and he was placed on injured reserve. He did not play this summer but is playing with Guelph University in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association this fall.

      Kevin Colleluori was drafted by the Swarm earlier this month in the fourth round of the 2009 Entry Draft.

    • 09/21/09 - Brock Boyle Returns to Minnesota. Two Additional Players Signed

      The Minnesota Swarm signed three players today to one year contracts including Brock Boyle, who played with the Swarm from 2005 - 2007. The other two players signed were Alex Henderson and Steve Hutchins.

      Brock Boyle was an original member of the Swarm and returns to the team after he was traded on draft day in 2007 to Boston along with two first round picks for Craig Point and Darren Halls. A lefthanded defenseman from Mississauga, Ontario, Boyle, 27, played in 44 games for the Swarm from 2005 - 2007 including the Swarm's first ever playoff game in 2006. In the regular season with the Swarm, Boyle scored 30 goals and 21 assists. In the 2006 playoff game, Boyle scored a goal and an assist. He scored two game winning goals for the Swarm in 2006 against Edmonton on February 3 and against Portland on March 17. His 30 regular season goals are seventh in Swarm history. Since he left Minnesota originally, he played with the Chicago Shamrox in 2008 and the Rochester Knighthawks in 2009. Look for Boyle to wear #24.

      Alex Henderson will be attending his first NLL camp as a member of the Swarm. The lefthanded forward from Oshawa, Ontario played with the Peterborough Lakers in the Senior A circuit this summer where he scored two goals and five assists in eleven games. Henderson, 22, played with Marc Jackson on the Clarington Green Gaels Founders Cup champions in 2004. Look for Henderson to wear #32.

      Steve Hutchins is a 23 year-old righthanded forward from Whitby, Ontario. He was drafted by the Edmonton Rush in the second round of the 2007 draft. In 2008, Hutchins played six games with the Rush scoring three goals and six assists in his rookie of season. He was not brought back with the Rush for the 2009 season. He plays for the Brooklin Redmen in the Ontario Senior A circuit in the summer. He was a teammate of Henderson and Jackson on the 2004 Clarington Green Gael Founders Cup championship team. Look for Hutchins to wear #41.

      The Minnesota Swarm participated in today's 2009 Entry Draft in Buffalo, New York where they drafted entered the evening with seven picks. They used four picks on new players and traded their other three picks for three NLL veterans.

      Zack Greer is the headlining act in this year's draft for the Swarm. Greer was taken with the third overall pick in the draft, the highest pick the Swarm have had in their history. Greer from Whitby, Ontario is the all-time leading goal scorer (267) in NCAA lacrosse history while attending Duke before finishing up in Bryant. At 6-2 190 lbs., Greer was drafted to be a franchise type scorer on the left side like Rochester's John Grant. During the summer, Greer plays in the MLL with the Long Island Lizarda where this past summer he scored twelve goals and assisted on two in five games.

      Kevin Colleluori was the 365h pick in the draft out of Colgate. The 5-7 181 lbs. lefthanded forward is from of Bethpage, New York. At Colgate, he scored 103 goals and assisted on 26.

      Cody Johnson was the 44th pick in the draft out of Onondaga. The 5-9 170 lbs. lefthanded forward played his junior ball in Six Nations where he grew up. In 2007 & 2008, he helped lead the Six Nations Jr. B team, the Rebels, to consecutive Founders Cup victories. This past summer he moved up to the Jr. A team in Six Nations, the Arrows, where he scored 14 goals and 21 assists.

      Matt Kelly was the 54th pick in the draft out of Virginia. The 6-0 220 lbs. lefthanded defenseman from Kenilworth, Illinois scooped up 162 ground balls with his longstick. In his freshman year in 2006, he helped lead Virginia to the NCAA Championship and a 17-0 record.

      Richard Morgan was acquired by the Swarm when they traded the ninth pick in the entry draft to the Edmonton Rush. The 6-8 260 lbs. lefthanded defenseman from Port Coquitlam, British Columiba is a six year pro who has played in Anaheim and Portland. In 93 games, Morgan has scored 67 goals and 58 assists. He was selected to the 2007 West All-Star Team. He has Earlier in his career, he was used more on offense while the last couple years in Portland, he was a bit more defense oriented. He should be able to help out on both sides and his size will be a hindrance to most if not all opponents.

      The Swarm then traded the 13th and 23rd picks in the entry draft to the Washington Stealth for two players, Aaron Bold and Alex Turner.

      Aaron Bold is a goaltender with four years of NLL experience in Portland and San Jose. In 22 games, the Victoria, British Columbia native went 5-4 with a 11.89 GAA and a .767 save percentage. He won a Minto Cup with the Peterborough Lakers Junior A team in 2006. He is the backup to Nick Patterson with the Victoria Shamrocks in the summmer. Bold (6-2 210 lbs.) and Kevin Croswell will do battle to back up Patterson.

      Alex Turner is a lefthanded forward who entered the league last year with the San Jose Stealth. In seven games in 2009, Turner (6-0 200 lbs.) scored seven goals and nine assists. Turner is from Kamploops, British Columbia and plays with Langley Thunder in the summer.

      The Minnesota Swarm have re-signed defenseman Joe Cinosky to an one year contract. This is the first player the Swarm have signed to a contract this offseason. Cinosky will be entering his second season in the league and with the Swram after he was taken in 2008 Entry Draft with the thirteenth pick in the first round. Cinosky played in five games last year and assisted on two goals. He just finished his second year in the MLL where he just won the MLL Championsip in Toronto with Jon Sullivan and was played in the MLL All-Star Game with Ricky Pages.

      2010 Minnesota Swarm Schedule

      The Minnesota Swarm now knows the route they must travel for Champions Cup glory in 2010. The 2010 schedule was announced for the National Lacrosse League and the Swarm know their slice of it. It all begins on Sunday, January 10 in Calgary as the Swarm will be hosted by the 2009 Champions Cup winners, the Roughnecks, who will raise their championship banner that afternoon. Calgary will return the favor the following weekend as they will be the guests in the Swarm's home opener on Friday, January 15 at the Xcel Energy Center. All home games begin at 7:35 pm Central this season which is a change from previous seasons. Read More...
