    The Swarm's all-time leading scorer Ryan Ward was traded today along with Justin Norbraten, Scott Stewart and Richard Morgan to the Edmonton Rush for Ryan Benesch, Scott Self and the ninth pick in the 2009 Entry Draft.

    In five years, Ward led the Swarm with 114 goals and 196 assists for a total of 310 points. He also has scored the most short handed goals in team history with five. He scored three goals and six assists in three playoff games for the Swarm.

    Norbraten was the Swarm's first round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft and collected five assists in six games in 2008. Stewart and Morgan were acquired earlier in the day in the LumberJax dispersal draft.

    In return, the Swarm get Benesch who was the first overall pick in the 2006 Entry Draft and the 2007 NLL Rookie of the Year for the Toronto Rock. Self is a two time all-star and considered one of the best defensemen in the league. He has currently played in 77 straight games. With the acquisition of the ninth pick in this year's Entry Draft, the Swarm now have two first round picks.

    The Minnesota Swarm along with the rest of the National Lacrosse League participated in the dispersal draft of the Portland LumberJax. The Jax played four years in Portland but decided to fold on June 25, 2009. The Swarm went 4-2 against the LumberJax in those years.

    With the thrid pick in the draft, the Swarm chose transition player Scott Stewart, who played with the Swarm in 2006 & 2007. The Swarm acquired the sixth pick in the draft from the Rochester Knighthawks in the deal that brought Aaron Wilson to the team and selected defenseman Richard Morgan. With the fourteenth pick, the Swarm chose forward Tim Campeau, who just finished his rookie season and with the 25th pick, the Swarm chose defenseman Bruce Alexander. Alexander was chosen by the Swarm in their own e xpansion draft in 2004.
