No more than two of those players may have a chance to make the team.

  • 10/13/10 - Ryan "The Bowling Ball" Benesch Strikes for Three More Years

    Ryan Benesch

Ryan Benesch has re-signed for three more years on Wednesday with the Swarm. The lefty forward had his best season last year, his first with the Swarm, when he scored 28 goals and 55 assosts. His eleven points, nine of them assists, against Calgary on March 26, 2010 set Swarm single game records. Ryan led the Swarm in scoring in their 2010 playoff game against Washington with a goal and three assists. Only 25, Benesch, first overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft with San Jose, has played four years and has 97 goals and 138 assists in 58 NLL games, which averages over four points per game.

Benesch came over in the Ryan Ward trade with Edmonton in July 2009 and exceeded Ward in points last year or in any year that Ward played with the Swarm, even though post-season success was on Ward's side in 2010. With the new three year commitment, Benesch should be the solid number one lefty forward for years to come.

  • 10/08/10 - Noah Talbot and Tim Campeau Re-Sign with Swarm. Tyler Hass and Scott Rodgers also sign dotted line with Swarm

    Noah Talbot

    Tim Campeau

    Tyler Hass

    Scott Rodgers

Today, the Minnesota Swarm have re-signed D Noah Talbot to an one-year contract and F Tim Campeau to a two-year contract. Also, the Swarm signed F Tyler Hass and G Scott Rodgers to one-year contracts.

Noah Talbot will be entering his seventh NLL season, sixth with the Swarm as he joined the team in year two. Talbot has one goal and 26 assists in 78 gamwes with the Swarm and has a current streak of 58 consecutive games played with the Swarm since March 18, 2007, which is a team record he set last year. Overall, he has 3 goasls and 29 assists in his career. A stay at home defender who takes on opponents' top righies game in and game out, Talbot has established himself as the top lefty defenseman on the Swarm for many years. He is one of only five Swarm playrs to play in all four of the Swarm's playoff games.

One reason for the one year contact is that Talbot will be eligible for unrestricted free agency nexc year when players born in 1979 are eligible for ufa status under the NLL's CBA. The Swarm will have to amke a tough decision next offseason on whether to make Talbot a franchise player who would get a salary 25% over the NLL max player salary or let him test free agency with the possiblity of getting nothing in return. A solid season by Talbot could get him franchise player status from the Swarm but the Swarm have never given a player that status in their history as we have seen with a still unsigned Eric Pacey this year.

Tim Campeau will be entering his third NLL season and his second with the Swarm. Last year, Campeau scored 11 goals and 37 assists in 15 games. He scored game winners last year against Calgary in last year's Swarm home opener on January 15th and in Colorado on February 27th. He arrived via the Porltand LumberJax dispersal draft in the summer of 2009 and in 26 gmaes in his NLL career has 24 goals and 52 assists. Campeua will be battling for either the third or fourth lefty forward spot this year for the Swarm.

Tyler Hass looks like he will finally make his way to Minnesota this season, at least to training camp. The righthanded forward was selected by the Swarm in the third round of the 2006 NLL Entry Draft but has not yet tried to make the team as he was playing college basketball with his hometown Victoria Vikings in Victoria, Briish Columbia. He graduated in 2009 and tried minor league basketball that summer but an injury kept him out of action. This summer, Hass tired summmer box lacrosse for the first time since 2006 when he suited up for the Victoria Shamorcks. He scored five goals and three assists in the regular season in 15 games but did even better in the playoffs with seven goals and two assists in ten games. Since he was drafted, the Swarm have succeeded in keeping the rights to Hass. even signing him to a contract in the fall of 2008 even though he was not going to play in 2009. Finally, we will be able to see what gets Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill so excited when he mentions the 6' 6" transition type player, Tyler Hass.

Scott Rodgers is the first Swarm draft pick from the 2010 NLL Entry Draft to sign with the team. He was drafted with the fifteen pick of the draft. The 6' 4" 254lbs goaltender graduated from Notre Dame this past year where he was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2010 NCAA Division I Lacrosse Tournament as he led the Irish to the NCAA Final. What we don't know yet is if Rodgers will try to transition to indoor goaltender or do what his MLL Toronto National teammate Brett Queener has done by playing transition indoors with the Boston Blazers while playing goaltender outdoors with the Nationals.
