Summer Playoffs In Canada for Swarm Players

The playoffs for the Western Lacrosse Association (BC) and Major Series Lacrosse (ON) begin today to determine who will go to the Mann Cup in early September which the MSL champions will host.

In the WLA, the best of seven semifinals begin Wednesday, with:

• (1)Victoria Shamrocks v. (4)New Westminster Salmonbellies
  • Victoria - Tyler Hass
  • New Wesminster - Logan Schuss
  • Schuss may miss weekend games during the WLA playoffs due to playing for the Ohio Machine of the MLL. Hass has been in trade talks per rumors reported by ILWT, which may see him traded at any time. The Shamrocks advanced to the Mann Cup last year out of the WLA. Former Swarm Kyle Ross plays for the Salmonbellies.
  
  
• (2)Burnaby Lakers v. (3)Maple Ridge Burrards
  • Burnaby - Scott Jones and Dane Stevens
  • Stevens led the Lakers in scoring this season. Former Swarm Rory McDade is the Burnaby Head Coach. Former Swarm Michael Brascia plays for Burnaby.

In the MSL, the best of seven semifinals begin today with:

• (1)Brooklin Redmen v. (4)Six Nations Chiefs
  • Brooklin - Zach Higgins, Shayne Jackson, Kiel Matisz and Jordan Houtby
  • Jackson led the Redmen in scoring. Higgins shares goaltending duties with Mike Poulin. Former Swarm Dan Ball plays for Brooklin. Former Swarm Evan Kirk, Rory Smith, Jon Sullivan, Kasey Beirnes and Craig Point play for Six Nations. Former Swarm Head Coach Duane Jacobs is the Chiefs' General Manager and former Swarm Head Coach Mike Lines is an assistant for the Chiefs. The Chiefs are the defending Mann Cup champions.
  
  
• (2)Peterborough Lakers v. (3)Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks
  • Peterborough - Andrew Suitor, Brock Sorensen and Josh Gillam. The Lakers head coach is Joe Sullivan and just like in Minnesota, Bobby Keast assists him.
  • Sorensen has not played since June 30th due to injury and his status for the playoffs is uncertain. Former Swarm Tyler Carlson, Chad Culp, Andrew Watt, Aaron Wilson, Scott Self and Darryl Gibson play for Peterborough. Former Swarm Ryan Benesch plays for Kitchener-Waterloo and he led them in scoring.
