Minnesota Swarm 23-Man Roster for 2013

Announced December 20, 2012

The Minnesota Swarm announced their 23-man active roster for the upcoming 2013 season. Seven players are new from the 2012 Swarm active roster at the end of last year.

  • 8 - Greg Downing - Finished 2012 season on injured reserve with knee injury
  • 10 - Alex Crepinsek - 2012 NLL Entry Draft pick Rd 1 Pk 10
  • 16 - Mike O'Brien - Signed as a rookie free agent
  • 27 - Pat Smith - Played one game in 2012 for the Swarm, spent rest of season on practice squad
  • 32 - Shayne Jackson - 2012 NLL Entry Draft pick Rd 1 Pk 4
  • 46 - Kiel Matisz - 2012 NLL Entry Draft pick Rd 1 Pk 3
  • 66 - Matt Gibson - 2012 NLL Entry Draft pick Rd 5 Pk 46

Jeff Gilbert will wear #4 this year.

Jersey numbers to make their Swarm regular season debut this year - 32 & 46.

First round pick Brock Sorensen was placed on the physicaly unable to play list due to his knee injury suffered last spring at The Ohio State.

Four 2012 NLL Entry Draft picks made the final roster.

Matt Gibson has been assigned #66, which was retired for Eric Perkins in 2008. The status of Perkins' retired jersey is up in the air.

Mike O'Brien advanced from the rookie/Free agent camp to make the team. Ryan Masters also advanced from that camp to make it to the practice roster.

Swarm leading scorers Ryan Benesch and Callum Crawford return for their fourth seasons with the Swarm. Andrew Watt is the longest returning member of the team entering his fifth year. Andrew Suitor will be captain for the second straight year. Nine rookies from last year return to play this year. The coaching staff returns from the end of the season after Joe Sullivan took over mid season last yearas head coach from Mike Lines.

Seven players who were on the 2012 Swarm active roster at the end of last year are not on the active roster to start this year:

  • 4 - Joe Cinosky - Placed on Hold Out List
  • 11 - Richard Morgan - Signed as unrestricted free agent with Colorado
  • 13 - Matt Kelly - Placed on Hold Out List
  • 23 - Brendon Doran - Traded to Buffalo
  • 45 - Michael Brascia - Released
  • 71 - Kevin Ross - Traded to Philadelphia
  • 81 - Josh Gillam - Placed on Hold Out List

The follwoing players were cut on December 20 and signed to the practice roster:

  • 18 - Tyler Tanguay
  • 31 - Zach Higgins
  • 89 - Ryan Masters
