March 2006 Updates

February 2006 | Current Month | Other Months | April 2006

  • 03/31/06 - Preview: Swarm Vs Rock

With the tight race for playoff positioning in the East and for that matter the West, every single game the rest of the season in the league will directly affect playoff seeding. The Swarm only own a tiebreaker against Philadelphia and in order to not lose the tiebreaker to the Rock, they will need to win the second of two games against the teams this weekend. After a 0-4 start, the defending NLL Champion Rock won six straight but have now lost two of their last three.

  • 03/24/06 - Review: Swarm 11 Bandits13

The final score of last night's game at the Xcel Energy center should have been the Minnesota Swarm 13 and the Buffalo Bandits 12. However, the Swarm lost 2-0 to the referees and Mark Steenhuis added an empty net goal with 20 seconds to go for a Bandit 13-11 victory.

  • 03/23/06 - Preview: Swarm Vs Bandits

This game is the final game of the regular season series between both teams. Each have won a game from each other and with a victory on Friday night, the victor will rack up another head-to-head tiebreaker. The Swarm have struggled at home with an 1-3 record and have not been home since a February 10th 11-10 victory over the Philadelphia Wings.

  • 03/22/06 - Ryan Ward Named NLL Offensive Player of the Week

Ryan Ward was named the NLL Offensive Player of the Week ending March 19th. His three goals and seven assists led the Swarm to a 14-12 victory over the LumberJax in Portland last Friday. His seven assists and ten points in the game were the most ever for a Swarm player in a game in team history. Ward leads the Swarm with 48 points and 34 assists this season and is the team's all-time leader with 92 points and 59 assists.

  • 03/19/06 - Review: Swarm 14 LumberJax12

A strong 6-1 fourth quarter for the Minnesota Swarm (6-5) was enough to overcome the Portland LumberJax (5-5) at the Rose Garden in Portland. Ryan Ward had a career game with three goals and seven assists to lead the team. The seven assists and ten points are Swarm all-time game records. With their sixth win, the Swarm set a single season win record passing five from last year and with four of five at The Hive to finish the season, the Swarm are in great position to make the playoffs.

  • 03/15/06 - Preview: Swarm at LumberJax

Which is bigger, the Swarm fighting for the playoffs or the Swarm facing off against former teammate #14 Ryder Bateman? Probably and hopefully the former, but I am sure a couple of the guys (i.e. #50 Ryan Cousins and #55 Michael Kilby) will reacquaint themselves with Ryder during the game.

  • 03/14/06 - The Swarm Extremely Busy At Trade Deadline

Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill was burning up the phones on Tuesday throughout the National Lacrosse League.

    The Swarm add:

    • Sign D Shawn Summerfield to an one-year contract.
    • Sign F Dean Hill off the Practice Roster to an one-year contract.
    • Acquire D Andrew Biers from the Calgary Roughnecks.
    • Sign D Kyle Ross to the Practice Roster.
    • Acquire the Toronto Rock's first round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft and second round pick in the 2006 Entry Draft.

    The Swarm move:

    • Trade D Darryl Gibson and their second round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft to the Toronto Rock.
    • Release F Tony Henderson and F D'Arcy Berthiaume.
    • Trade their second and third round picks in the 2006 Entry Draft to the Calgary Roughnecks.

  • 03/08/06 - Disher Named NLL Overall and Defensive Player of the Week

When you play the Buffalo Bandits and beat them, it gets the league's attention. Which it did, as the NLL named Matt Disher the NLL Overall and Defensive Player of the Week ending March 5th. In last Saturday's win 11-8 over the Bandits, the first for the Swarm after four losses to the Bandits to start their existence, Disher had 46 saves on 54 shots and even assisted on a goal late in the game.

  • 03/06/06 - Patterson Named NLL Player of the Month for February

Nick Patterson has been shutting down the opposition all season and the NLL agrees for the month of February as they made Patterson their player of the month. Patterson played three games leading the Swarm to a 2-1 record including a home win against the Philadelphia Wings with 41 saves.

  • 03/04/06 - Review: Swarm 11 Bandits 8

The Swarm spoil John Tavares night in Buffalo with a 11-8 victory. Even though, Tavares broke the NLL all-time points record which now stands at 1.093, he only got two assists and was held without a goal. Great job by the Swarm defense on Tavares. Matt Disher was shining star tonight as he made 46 of 54 shots often with Tavares and Mark Steenhuis taking target practice. No rust on Disher as he hadn't played since January 29th. This is the first ever Swarm win over Buffalo after losing in the first four games against them in team history.

  • 03/03/06 - Review: Swarm 8 Rock 13

The Swarm (4-5) took one on the chin tonight in Toronto losing 13-8. The Swarm offense is still struggling. We move the ball well, but it is as if no one wants to take the big shot. We can't finish. The Rock (5-4) are much more aggressive picking up loose balls and they did it with gusto tonight. I would like to see the Swarm be a bit more aggressive picking them up. Also, I think the Swarm were hesitant on a few breakaways tonight that cost us.

  • 03/03/06 - Swarm Bring Back Miyashita

The Minnesota Swarm bring back Mark Miyashita who they released four weeks ago. Miyashita had a goal and three assists when he was released. To make room on the roster, the Swarm released defenseman Shawn Summerfield, who had an assist in four games this season.

  • 03/02/06 - Preview: Swarm at Bandits

The standings are tight in the East and the Swarm have to make their move this weekend in order to improve their playoff chances. Remember, the top four in each division make the playoffs. The Swarm won the tiebreaker against Philadelphia but lost it to Rochester. Tiebreakers are still up for grabs against Toronto and Buffalo. The Swarm are already behind the eight ball to the Bandits as the Bandits beat the Swarm early this year.

  • 03/02/06 - Preview: Swarm at Rock

The Swarm have an extremely important, colossal two game road trip this weekend against division rivals in Toronto on Friday and then they go to Buffalo on Saturday.
