April 2006 Updates

March 2006 | Current Month | Other Months | May 2006

  • 04/24/06 - Buffalo News: Playoff Review - Swarm 10 Bandits 11

  • 04/24/06 - Playoff Review: Swarm 10 Bandits 11

The Minnesota Swarm fell behind early but a late rally nearly brought playoff glory for the team before they fell 11-10 to the Buffalo Bandits in the team's playoff premiere. Matt Disher came in relief of starter Nick Patterson and saved 31 of 36 shots but Bandit Mark Steenhuis' second goal of the game with 3:09 left sealed the Swarm's fate.

  • 04/21/06 - Playoff Preview: Swarm at Bandits

The Swarm will make their first ever playoff appearance this weekend in Buffalo against the East Division champion Bandits. The Bandits have won the championship in 1992, 1993 & 1996. "Offense wins games, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS". A new cliché, first coined by Swarm Captain #50 Ryan Cousins (2g 6a), is the mantra for this year's team.

  • 04/18/06 - The Swarm Start the Playoffs on Sunday in Buffalo

It has been announced that the Minnesota Swarm will play their first ever playoff game on Sunday, April 23rd in Buffalo against the East Division regular season champions, the Buffalo Bandits. Game time is 1:00 pm.

  • 04/15/06 - Review: Swarm 8 LumberJax 13

The Minnesota Swarm took one on the chin at the Xcel Energy Center last night, losing to the Portland Lumberjax 13-8. With the loss, the Swarm will be the fourth seed and play the Buffalo Bandits on the road next weekend. The date and time have not yet been announced, but considering arena commitments like Buffalo Sabre playoff games and concerts, it is looking like Sunday afternoon on April 23rd.

  • 04/14/06 - The Swarm Back in, I Mean Clinch Their First Playoff Spot

The Minnesota Swarm are going to the playoffs for the first time in team history due to the Philadelphia Wings losing 8-7 in Buffalo. Now it is a matter of who they will visit in the first round as they can't host a first round game. If the Swarm win on Saturday, they will play the winner of the Toronto/Rochester game on Saturday, next weekend as they will be the third seed. If the Swarm lose on Saturday, they will be the fourth seed and play in Buffalo.

  • 04/13/06 - Preview: Swarm vs LumberJax

The Minnesota Swarm (8-7) host the Portland LumberJax (9-5) at The Hive this Saturday, possibly with a playoff spot on the line depending on the outcome of the Philadelphia Wings game in Buffalo against the Bandits. Will Ryan Ward repeat his March performance of 3 goals and 7 assists? Can the Swarm build on two crazy home wins this month already? The next biggest game in team history will be this Saturday night!

  • 04/10/06 - Swarm Playoff Scenarios This Weekend

If the Swarm beat the Portland LumberJax this weekend at The Hive, they are in.

If the Swarm lose to Portland, they will need the Philadelphia Wings to at least lose on of their two games this weekend.

If the Swarm lose to Portland and Philadelphia wins both of their games this weekend, the Swarm are eliminated.

  • 04/09/06 - Review: Swarm 9 Stealth 8 OT

Dean Hill made his NLL and Swarm debut today with four goals as the Minnesota (8-7) pick up a huge victory over the San Jose Stealth (5-9) by a 9-8 in overtime. The game winner for the Swarm came courtesy of Jamie Taylor just 1:37 into the extra frame. The Swarm earned a weekend split but still have not clinch a playoff spot. Win against Portland at The Hive next weekend and they are in.

  • 04/08/06 - Review: Swarm 9 Knighthawks 10

The Swarm fought hard and came back to tie it three times in the 2nd Half but fell to the Knighthawks 10-9 in Rochester. The Swarm now can't clinch until next weekend but they surely will need to beat the Stealth at The Hive tomorrow to have a better chance to clinch next weekend.

  • 04/07/06 - Preview: Swarm vs Stealth

The second of two games for the Minnesota Swarm (7-6) occurs on Sunday at The Hive as they host the San Jose Stealth (5-7). Both teams will play two this weekend and by the time this game starts, the Swarm will have already clinched a spot in the playoffs on Saturday night, be able to clinch a spot against the Stealth or have to wait to the season finale at home against Portland.

  • 04/07/06 - Preview: Swarm at Knighthawks

The Minnesota Swarm (7-6) enter the weekend with a chance to make the playoffs but they must start the weekend off with a victory in Rochester over the Knighthawks (7-7) on Saturday night. The Swarm have lost both games to the Knighthawks already this season so either way, the Knighthawks win the season series. Can the Swarm use the momentum from the comeback win over the Toronto Rock last Saturday to get past the Knighthawks? We shall see.

  • 04/06/06 - Swarm Playoff Scenarios This Weekend

The Minnesota Swarm are in if they beat both the Rochester Knighthawks and San Jose Stealth this weekend.

The Swarm are also in this weekend if they beat the Knighthawks and if the Philadelphia Wings beat the Toronto Rock this weekend.

If the two scenarios above do not occur, the Swarm will have to wait until next weekend to clinch a playoff spot.

  • 04/05/06 - Star Tribune: Swarm Works To Create Lacrosse Buzz

  • 04/01/06 - Review: Swarm 10 Rock 9

Do you believe? The Minnesota Swarm do. The Swarm had a historic night on Saturday, April 1st, as they came back from a 9-2 deficit with 9:11 to go in the third quarter to beat the defending NLL champions, the Toronto Rock, 10-9. The seven goal deficit was the largest the Swarm have ever come back from in their history. The Xcel Energy Center crowd of 10,084 saw a Swarm team that decided they had enough about listening to how great the veteran Rock were and how inexperienced people said the Swarm were.
