January 2014 Updates

December 2013 | Current Month | Other Months | February 2014

  • 01/31/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm at Colorado Mammoth - February 1st - 8:00 pm Central. The battle of last place teams in the NLL occurs Saturday night in Denver as the Swarm visit the Mammoth at the Pepsi Center. Has Head Coach Joe Sullivan found a solution over the last two weeks to solve the Swarm's offensive woes? We shall see.

  • 01/23/14 - The Minnesota Swarm acquired lefty forward Dane Stevens from the Edmonton Rush for a fourth round pick in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft they originally belonged to Edmonton. Stevens was drafted by the Rush with the 14th pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft. Stevens played for the Rush in 2010 & 2011 where he scored 11 goals and 16 assists in 14 games. However, he has been unable to commit fully during the last few seasons due to his work as a gemstone wholesaler. He made the Rush active roster out of camp this season but was placed on the holdout list prior to the first game of the season possibly due to family reasons. Right now, he is on the Swarm's hold out list until he is ready to play and if the Swarm need him. With Logan Schuss, Shayne Jackson and Josh Gillam on the left side on the active roster along with practice roster player Zach Palmer, it may take an injury for Stevens to play; then again, maybe the coaches are a bit concerned about the production on the left side and bringing in Stevens may put a bit of pressure on those players.

  • 01/20/14 - YouTube - Heavyweight Indoor Lacrosse Fight Brodie Merrill goes against Andrew Suitor

  • 01/19/14 - Review - Swarm 8 Wings 15. The Minnesota Swarm home opener in front of 8,213 fans did not quite go as expected as the Wings win the second of two games this weekend to get the split of the weekend series. At 1-3, the Swarm are in last place in the East and an half game out of the third playoff spot.

  • 01/18/14 - Review - Swarm 11 Wings 10. The Minnesota Swarm win their first game of the year in Philadelphia on Saturday behind Zach Higgins' 31 saves in relief in his first ever NLL and Swarm game. The two teams meet again this Sunday at The Hive in the Swarm's home opener.

  • 01/17/14 - Preview - The Minnesota Swarm have a double headheader weekend against the Philadelphia Wings this weekend:

Both teams are at the bottom of the East Division and need to sweep to stay in the playoff race. The Swarm have their home opener on Sunday at The Hive where they have been 11-5 in the last two regular seasons.

  • 01/12/14 - Review - Swarm 5 Stealth 8. The Minnesota Swarm fall to 0-2 on Saturday night as they score an all-time regular season low 5 goals against the Vancouver Stealth. Kiel Matisz led the Swarm with 2 goals and 1 assist but the rest of the offense was not able to produce enough despite another stellar defensive performance by the team.

  • 01/09/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm at Vancouver Stealth - January 11th - 9:00 pm Central. The Swarm play in the first regular season game in Vancouver since the Ravens played in 2004 as they visit the Stealth in their home opener. Both teams are looking to win their first game of the year after losing their openers on the road.

  • 01/02/14 - The Minnesota Swarm add Corbyn Tao to the practice roster today. He joins Dominique Alexander and Zach Palmer on that list. The Swarm can still add another practice player to the roster if they want. Tao has been with the Swarm the last two years but was one of the final cuts this past training camp.

  • 01/01/14 - Jason Noble has decided to drop his appeal of the one-game suspension he was given by the NLL for his crosscheck match penalty in the pre-season game against Calgary on December 14th. The suspension was handed out last Thursday but Noble appealed which allowed him to play in the season opener in Rochester. Now, Noble will miss the Swarm's next game against Vancouver in Langley, BC on January 11th.
