February 2014 Updates

January 2014 | Current Month | Other Months | March 2014

  • 02/23/14 - Review - Swarm 15 Wings 14

The Swarm should move to Philadelphia because all they do there is win this season as they beat the Wings 15-14 to break a five game losing streak and win the season series between the two teams, 2-1. Logan Schuss had his breakthrough game for the Swarm with five goals and two assists. Scott Jones has struggled all year but he came through with the game winner to make it much better. The Swarm have a weekend off before they return to action on Saturday, March 8th in Buffalo.

  • 02/22/14 - Review - Swarm 12 Rock 14

The Swarm fell to 1-7 with their fifth straight loss tonight by a 14-12 score to the Rock. Jordan MacIntosh tied a career high with five goals but the Swarm 8-1 fourth quarter was not enough to comeback to win. Andrew Suitor was ejected after he got in a fight which he incurred a game misconduct and an instigator penalty in the first quarter. The Swarm are three games behind the third place Rock (4-4), who hold the final playoff spot in the East. The Swarm turn around quickly and travel to Philadelphia for a game against the Wings tomorrow at 3:00 pm central.

  • 02/22/14 - Swarm roster moves prior to the game in Toronto against the Rock:

    • Tyler Hass is activated off the 21 day injured reserve list. Hass will make his first appearance since the home opener on January 19th.
    • Corbyn Tao is activated off the practice roster. Tao will make his 2014 NLL debut tonight.
    • Dane Stevens is moved to the practice roster. Stevens has played in two games this season.
    • David Earl is placed on the 7 day injured reserve list. Earl did not dress on February 8th against Calgary but came back last weekend against Edmonton. Earl can be reactivated in time for the game in Buffalo on March 8th.

This is the first time the Swarm have placed a player on the 7 day injured reserve list. They can use this list four times during the year and now have three times left.

  • 02/20/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm at Philadelphia Wings - February 23th - 3:00 pm Central. The Swarm (1-6) play the second of two games this weekend as they finish up this Sunday in Philadelphia against the Wings (3-6). Both teams are battling to catch the third place Toronto Rock for the playoff spot. This is the last of three regular season games against the teams as both have beat each other in the other's building. Sunday's game will decide the crucial tiebreaker between the two teams.

  • 02/20/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm at Toronto Rock - February 22th - 6:00 pm Central. The Swarm (1-6) start a three game road swing out East with this game in Toronto against the Rock (3-4). This is the first of three this season against the Rock as both teams are fighting for the third and last playoff spot in the East Division.

  • 02/17/14 - Playoff Picture

    Standings:

East Division W-L (Division Record) [vs. Swarm] (Goal Differential)

    1. Buffalo Bandits 6-2 (5-2) [0-0] (12)
    2. Rochester Knighthawks 5-2 (5-1) [1-0] (19)
    3. Toronto Rock 3-4 (1-4) [0-0] (4)
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    4. Philadelphia Wings 3-6 (2-5) [1-1] (-7)
    5. MINNESOTA SWARM 1-6 (1-2) (-20)

The Swarm will finally get back to East Division opponents for the first time in a month this weekend as they travel to Toronto and Philadelphia for games. A sweep of these games will move the Swarm up to fourth place, just an half game behind Toronto for the final playoff spot in the East and an half game ahead of Philadelphia. This weekend's game against Philadelphia is the third and final in the regular season between both teams. The winner of that game will win the season series 2-1 and hold what appears will be a crucial tiebreaker advantage at the end of the season. The Swarm and Rock will meet for the first time this year with the remaining two games at The Hive later in the season including the regular season and home final. The Swarm have five straight games coming up against East Division foes with the first three on the road followed by two at The Hive. By the end of the March 23rd game against Buffalo, the Swarm will have a real good handle on whether or not they will be fighting for playoff positioning or the first pick in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft.

  • 02/16/14 - According to Tyler Hass after last night's game, he will be returning to the line up against Toronto this Saturday. He will be activated later this week off injured reserve after he suffered an upper body injury against Philadelphia on January 19th, the Swarm's home opener. The Swarm will have to make a roster move to activate Hass by either releasing a player or putting a player on the practice squad.

  • 02/16/14 - Review - Swarm 9 Rush 14. Tough times at The Hive continued for the Minnesota Swarm (1-6) as they lost their fourth straight overall and fell to 0-3 at home this season with a 14-9 loss to the undefeated Edmonton Rush (7-0) on Saturday night. Callum Crawford led the Swarm with two goals and six assists. The Swarm remain two games behind the Toronto Rock, losers 17-9 to the Rochester Knighthawks, for the third and final playoff spot in the East. The 1-6 record is a franchise worst seven-game start to a season in team history.

  • 02/13/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm vs Edmonton Rush - February 15th - 6:00 pm Central. The Swarm will be at home for the last for a month as they host the undefeated Rush at The Hive this Saturday. Note the early start of 6:00 pm as this is the 4th annual Swarm/Rollergirls double header. The Swarm have lost three straight and are two games out of a playoff spot, so this is quite a David (Swarm) and Goliath (Rush) match up coming up this weekend.

  • 02/09/14 - Review - Swarm 13 Roughnecks 15. The Minnesota Swarm lost their third straight game and off to a franchise worst 1-5 start after a two goal loss to Calgary on Saturday night at The Hive. Cameron Flint scored his first NLL and Swarm goal. Both Shayne Jackson and Jordan MacIntosh scored three goals to lead the team.

  • 02/05/14 - Preview - Minnesota Swarm vs Calgary Roughnecks - February 8th - 7:00 pm Central. The Swarm return home looking for their first home win of the year and to catch up with the rest of the East Division as they host Calgary at The Hive. The big question this weekend is who will be starting in goal this weekend - Tyler Carlson or Zach Higgins.

  • 02/02/14 - Review - Swarm 12 Mammoth 14. The Minnesota Swarm scored a season high 12 goals but gave up 14 in the loss in Denver on Saturday night. Zach Higgins led the Swarm with 37 saves on 51 shots and Callum Crawford got the first hat trick of the season for the Swarm with four goals and three assists.

  • 02/01/14 - Stevens activated and Hass placed on Injured Reserve

The Swarm, prior to the game in Denver against the Mammoth on Saturday night, placed Tyler Hass on injured reserve for an unspecified injury. He must remain on IR for at least 21 days, meaning he will be able to come back for the February 22nd game in Toronto.

To replace Hass on the active roster, the Swarm activated Dane Stevens. Stevens, a lefty forward, is expected to add size to the left size, get a couple goals and free up space for his fellow shooters. Stevens will play tonight for the first time in the NLL since 2011 with the Edmonton Rush. There is no word on who will be scratched from tonight's game.

    Stevens will wear #27.
