February 2015 Updates

January 2015 | Current Month | Other Months | March 2015

  • 02/27/15 - Preview - Swarm at Stealth

I sense this game will be a high-scoring late night tussle with a streak here or there to keep each team on their toes. The Swarm definitely need a great game to get back on track this season and Vancouver is just as inconsistent a team as the Swarm are. Coming off a week break and with another week off coming up, look for the Swarm to throw all their cards out on the table in this match up.

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 16 Vancouver Stealth 14

  • 02/17/15 - Laxmagazine.com - Swarm, Mammoth Put up Dud of a Weekend

Neil Stevens states in his story that Callum Crawford twisted his ankle in the first quarter of the Rock game on Saturday night and the team decided not to take any chances with it. Also, Head Coach Joe Sullivan was very critical of the offense for their performance over the weekend.

  • 02/14/15 - The Swarm's Weekend From Hell

A weekend that started with great anticipation of what could come ended with a swift and powerful kick to the Minnesota Swarm's family jewels. Losing by twelve on Friday night at The Hive to Rock, both teams played against each other again tonight in Toronto and the Swarm fall 14-9. The loss drops the Swarm to last place at the end of the night in the East Division. However, all Swarm fans are wondering about the status of the team's all-time leading scorer Callum Crawford who left the game in the first quarter with a lower body injury. No news is yet known of how serious the injury is. Kiel Matisz stepped up to take Crawford's spot and led the team with 2 goals and 2 assists. Logan Schuss had three goals with Jordan MacIntosh, Andrew Suitor, Miles Thompson and Shane MacDonald each getting a goal with MacDonald's goal his first ever in the NLL and with the Swarm. Zach Higgins started in net but was replaced by Brodie MacDonald in the second quarter who started to show his worth with 28 saves on 36 shots.

  • 02/14/15 - Preview - Swarm at Rock

Maybe being a bit too optimistic, but I do see the Swarm getting more than four goals tonight. No clear dominance by either team with the game decided in the fourth instead of second quarter. With many relatives in the ACC tonight for Swarm players, the team will feel much more at home than they ever do at The Hive even going so far as to meet the fans after the game. An inspired and redemptive performance tonight will see the Swarm to a weekend and season split with the Rock.

  • 02/14/15 - Swarm Heroes Killed with Rock Kryptonite

On Friday night, the Minnesota Swarm entered the game at Ho-Chunk Nation Field feeling like Superheroes after last week's win over Rochester but on Heroes and Superheroes Night, the Rock killed off the Swarm will a all-too-powerful piece of blue, red & white kryptonite in route to a 16-4 rout of the Swarm. A Swarm 3-2 lead in the second quarter filled the hometown fans with false delusions of grandeur as the Rock scorched the Swarm with thirteen straight goals and terrorized both Swarm goaltenders with 63 shots on goal. The Swarm self-loathing can't last long as both teams play again tonight at the ACC in Toronto with the Swarm looking for a weekend and season split with the Rock.

  • 02/12/15 - Preview - Swarm vs Rock

The beginning of this weekend home and home series between the Minnesota Swarm and Toronto Rock begins this Friday, February 13th at 7:30 pm at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive. The two games are the only times both teams meet this regular season making this a hugely pivotal point of the season. The Minnesota Swarm are coming off a great win last win over Rochester and with a hot goaltender in Zach Higgins, a pressure defense that antagonizes the opponent all over the floor and an offense with the ability to rip goals in bunches which makes the Swarm ready to defeat the first place Rock at 6:00 pm central.

Minnesota Swarm game in Uncasville, Connecticut against the New England Black Wolves originally scheduled for Saturday, March 28th has been moved to Sunday, March 29th at 12:00 pm Central at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

  • 02/07/15 - Showtime Rolls Lucky Seven in Overtime

Friday night, both the Minnesota Swarm and Rochester Knighthawks had their defenses dialed in against each other as regulation ended tied at six at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at The Hive with 9,645 watching live and in person. Overtime is where one can make memories as the game's intensity rises to heart-stopping levels and that usually sees the best of best rise up. That is exactly what happened 2:21 into overtime for the Swarm as their leading scorer Callum "Showtime" Crawford ripped a laser from just inside the restraining line for the game winner for the hometown team with a 7-6 victory. Logan Schuss led the Swarm with three goals which all were tallied in the second quarter. Shayne Jackson and Miles Thompson opened the scoring for the Swarm in the first quarter and Andrew Suitor tied it up in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime. Like I said, defense was prevalent and ever present and Swarm goaltender Zach Higgins continued his great start to the 2015 season with 34 saves on 40 shots on net.

  • 02/05/15 - In Lacrosse We Trust - Crawford Blog: Swarm Lose in Buffalo

Now we know why the Swarm lost to Buffalo on January 30th, 2015. Callum Crawford writes that most of the team had to wait about two hours for their lunch on game day and the orders still weren't right. We can imply that the extra time and frustration about the game-day lunch messed with the Swarm's routine and we know how players love to stick to the same game-day routine. With their routine messed up, the Swarm get behind big by halftime and even with a valiant second half comeback, they could not make up the difference. I can emphasize since I would be frustrated and off my game if I had to wait two hours for lunch then again if anyone knows me, I rarely ever have waited two hours for lunch. As always, the truth comes out eventually or at least as I see the truth.

  • 02/03/15 - Preview - Swarm vs Knighthawks

The Knighthawks are a pretty stingy team on defense and they have the three-time defending champion pedigree. One never knows if the Swarm will start hot or finish hot but they can't afford to get behind this team that is for sure. After a successful 2-1 road trip, the Swarm come back to the Hive to try to attain their first home win of the year. Solid goaltending with Higgins and I think a 3 to 4 big transition goals from the sorts of Kiel Matisz & Sam Bradman should make the Swarm fans ring their newly-issued cowbells in victory.

Prediction: Minnesota Swarm 13 Rochester Knighthawks 12
