Notes

  • First Quarter
    • Rabil scores 17 seconds in on Patterson off opening draw. Stealth 1-0
    • Richards is starting his first NLL game in net
    • Culp misses on beauty of a feed from Ward. Culp all alone had shot deflected or missed the net.
    • Zywicki turns ball over and tries to get ball back commits a slash. Swarm PP
    • Wilson misses shot. Tries to get the ball but he slashes Grimes in SJ crease. Stealth PP
    • Doyle finds Duch on the side of the crease after faking pass to Sedgwick. Duch dumps it in for the goal. Stealth 2-0
    • Sedgwick rockets for top left for PP goal. Patterson can't control rebounds and it drops into the net. Stealth 3-0
    • Croswell in Patterson Out after the Sedgwick goal.
    • 7:06 left in first - Swarm 0 Stealth 3
    • The Wilson penalty definitely was a stupid one to take. Frustration.
    • Hartzell strips Pollock from behind when Pollock had a open shot on the crease.
    • Sharp with a huge shove of Sorensen into the boards from behind. Change of possession.
    • 4:47 left in the first - Swarm 0 Stealth 3
    • Richards along with Roik were the goaltenders for New Westminster in last year's Mann Cup Finals against Brampton.
    • Inch deflects Stealth shot over the crossbar.
    • Doyle spins into Achenbach near the crease and underhands it past Cromwell. Stealth 4-0
    • Johnson shot on side of crease denied by Croswell.
    • Illegal sub by the Swarm. Stealth PP
    • Richards denies all 13 Swarm shots.
    • End of first - Swarm 0 Stealth 4
  • Second Quarter
    • Duch behind a Sharp screen shoots from top center on Croswell's near side for the goal. Stealth 5-0

    • Buchanan beats his man to the net but Richards turns him away.
    • Rabil with a rocket off the post. It rebounds to Doyle who finds Rabil and this time Rabil through Patterson's legs for the goal. Stealth 9-1
    • Duch with an outside shot from the center to make it Stealth 10-1
    • Illegal sub on Stealth Swarm PP when we come back.
    • 4:08 left in the second. Swarm 1 Stealth 10
    • Culp's crease shot to Richards' left denied on the PP
    • Culp denied again on the same PP
    • A third chance by Culp denied on the PP. All good chances but all denied.
    • Rabil must have swam past Sharp about three times going down the field.
    • Rabil then finds Johnson for an outside shot left of Patterson. Stealth 11-1
    • Swarm TO 42 seconds left in the 2nd.
    • Richards with 27 saves on 28 shots
    • Illegal screen by Culp and the Swarm turn it over right out of the TO.
    • Make it 28 saves on 29 shots by Richards to end the half.
    • Halftime - Swarm 1 Stealth 11
    • The eleven goals is only the second most given up by the Swarm in the first half. They gave up 12 to Buffalo on March 4, 2007 at the X. The Swarm nearly came back but lost 16-15. The one goal by the Swarm ties the all time record as they scored one against Calgary on February 6, 2009 in Calgary. The Swarm lost that game 13-8.
  • Third Quarter
    • Zywicki putts it in on the crease off the opening face off. Stealth 12-1
    • Buchanan may be aiming for the glass instead of the net.
    • Patterson looking the other way while Duch shoots from long range off Patterson's elbow from behind and into the net. Maybe a hidden ball trick? Patterson and the Swarm had no idea where the ball was. Stealth 13-1
    • The NLL has a lot of momentum swings during the game. So far, this game is the exception.
    • Johnson with his fourth as the Stealth had the Swarm so spread out that some of the players were in the concourse. Stealth 14-1
    • Croswell back in net. Don't know when he came back for the second time tonight.
    • Richards 33 saves on 34 shots. Swarm PP when we come back.
    • 8:43 left in the third - Swarm 1 Stealth 14
    • There's a reason why our power play is last in the league at 36% coming into the game.
    • Zywicki just destroyed Achenbach from the front separating Colin from his helmet and sending Colin to China. Zywicki called for a penalty. Wilson also sent to the box for defending Achenbach.
    • Edmonton beats Portland 11-10. Edmonton now 5-8. Portland 6-4. Rochester beats Colorado 12-8. Colorado now 6-7
    • Ward wins race to the net but Richards makes shoulder save.
    • 4:36 left in the third - Swarm 1 Stealth 14
    • It looks like Achenbach is alive.
    • Sharp comes from behind the net and finds an opening past Richards. Swarm 2-14
    • Looked like Cinosky was about to go with Grimes. Don't know why the confrontation fizzled.
    • Croswell gets a illegal push into Zywicki sending him into the boards. Maybe retaliation.
    • Biers to the box. Swarm PP. 0-4 so far.
    • Ross with the goal to the left of Richards on some quick passing on the PP. Two in a row for the Swarm. Swarm 3-14
    • http://www.swarmitup.com/TeamGoalsG.htm - least goals by the Swarm in a game - six done twice.
    • Stealth power play with 5 seconds left in the third. Crosschecking on Cinosky.
    • End of the third - Swarm 3 Stealth 14
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Noah Talbot appears down after hit into the boards. May have twisted something. Jogs off and looks fine.
    • Croswell makes the save on Duch and outlets perfectly to Watt who gets ahead of the Stealth D on the breakaway to score. Swarm 4-14
    • That is Watt's fourth shortanded goal of the season.
    • Rabil to the box. Swarm PP
    • Ward to Wilson who finds Pollock racing to the net for the goal on the PP. Swarm 5-14
    • Four in a row. No stopping us now. May have to score a bit quicker.
    • Ross with a diving attempt is denied.
    • Kirk goes one on zero on the breakaway after Ross is denied and beats Croswell to make it Stealth 15-5
    • Buchanan off the face off gets around Hartzell and scores going left to right on Richards Swarm 6-15
    • Zywicki stutter steps past Sharp to the net for the easy goal. Stealth 16-6
    • Challenge by the Swarm on the goal. Maybe a crease violation.
    • Goal waived off. Swarm keep timeout. Swarm 6-15
    • 8:20 left in the game - Swarm 6 Stealth 15
    • Buchanan beats Santos to the net for the goal on the delayed penalty. Swarm 7-15
    • Pollock finds Ward for the pick and roll. Ward's first goal since Toronto on Feb 27 Swarm 8-15
    • 4:53 left in the game. Swarm 8 Stealth 15
    • Colin Doyle comes off screen with back to net. He backhands it in low past Croswell. Stealth 16-8
    • Duch from Doyle. Duch gives a fake on Croswell on the crease, then puts it past him five hole. Stealth 17-8
    • It may be getting away from us now.
    • Watt strips Johnson at midfield. Watt scoops and goes in on the break but Johnson comes back to strip him.
    • Hill to the box for a slash. Stealth PP
    • Two behind the back passes to get the ball to Johnson for the PP goal. Stealth 18-8
    • Final - Swarm 8 Stealth 18
    • The Swarm have lost three straight games
    • The two teams split the season series with both winning at home
    • The ten goal loss ties the largest margin of loss in Swarm history with a 19-9 loss in Rochester on April 7, 2007
    • The Swarm finish their road schedule with a 4-4 record
    • San Jose scored the first eight goals of the game and fourteen of the first fifteen
    • The Stealth beat the Swarm for the first time in history after the Swarm won the first four in series history
    • Ryan Ward got 300 points in his career with his fourth quarter goal
    • Aaron Wilson was held without a goal or assist for first time with the Swarm
    • Nick Patterson started the game in net and was relieved in the second quarter by Kevin Croswell. Both rotated throughout the game.
    • Tyler Richards made his first NLL start in net for the Stealth saving 46 of 54 shots

I think they played hard but the Stealth just got that big lead and buried them. Richards was hot in net and the Swarm had a lot of chances early but couldn't finish. Eventually they got frustrated with more shots missing the net as the game continued. Doyle controlled the game offensively for the Stealth and did whatever he wanted. Johnson got about four more goals than he should have. Not much defensive help after the first man was beaten. They may be due to a lack of organization to start and not really adjusting later to the game. By the end, the Stealth were resting a few players here and there bringing up some D guys on a shift or two but as the Swarm started a mini rally late, the Stealth rolled out their big guns to wreck more damage.

It is possible the Swarm thought the game was lost by half and tried to make sure to keep all healthy for Saturday night. However, that thought is not comforting whether true or not.

We lose to Edmonton tomorrow, we can just about kiss the season goodbye. We lose the tiebreaker to San Jose probably due to division record and if we lose to the Rush, we lose the head to head match up. We could still win the tiebreaker against Portland but by the time we play them next week, we may be just about out of the playoff picture.
