The Minnesota Swarm finished up the pre-season with a 10-7 loss to the Colorado Mammoth on Friday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The two teams split their two game pre-season series as the Swarm won last weekend 17-8.

Callum Crawford was instrumental in the Swarm's good start as he scored two of the three first quarter Swarm goals and assisted on Ryan Benesch's to put the Swarm up 3-0. The Mammoth closed out the quarter with two goals late to cut the lead to one.

The Mammoth's Cory Conway outscored the Swarm 3-0 in the second quarter to turn the fortunes of the Mammoth. For the Swarm, they were down two players by halftime as both Richard Morgan and Andrew Watt left the game with injuries. Kevin Croswell played the first half in goal for the Swarm giving up five goals. In two pre-season games, Crosweell gave up eight goals in 66 minutes of play.

The Mammoth got two more goals to start the third quarter. Altogether the Mammoth had scored seven in a row after the Swarm jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Sean Pollock finally broke the string with a goal soon followed by Zack Greer. The Mammoth got one more to make it 8-5 but the Swarm nearly made it 8-6 before the end of the quarter but a goal by Crawford was reviewed and taken off the board.

Greer did make it 8-6 with a goal to start the final but the Mammoth answer again. Pollock got it back with one at 9-7 but that was it for the Swarm as they go no closer. Jamie Shwechuk ended the scoring at 10-7 with a goal for the Mammoth. Nick Patterson played the second half in net for the Swarm and gave up five goals. In his 66 minutes of play in the two games, Patterson gave up ten goals.

This upcoming Wednesday, December 23 is the deadline for the Swarm and the other teams to submit their 23 man rosters. One can only wonder what if any effect the injuries suffered by Morgan and Watt (type of injuries unknown at this time) will affect that decision. Nonetheless, the Swerm did reasonably well playing shorthanded for most of the night and it looks like the defense is looking pretty solid. The offense may have been limited as the team probably had a defensive mindset after the injuries but it would like Greer is coming along and Crawford is making a push to be the third righty on offense.

Merry Christamas to all Swarm players, coaches, staff and fans!!!
