Third Quarter Futility Cursed the Swarm

The Minnesota Swarm scored three straight at the end of the first half to tie
the Buffalo Bandits, but a miserable third quarter which the Bandits shutout the
Swarm 4-0, sent the Swarm to their second straight loss by a score of 11-7.
The loss placed the Swarm in sole possession of last place in the West Division,
which also means temporarily out of the playoffs. The Swarm have now lost
eleven of thirteen regular season games against the Bandits.
Aaron Wilson and
Callum Crawford led the Swarm with two goals and two assists. Ryan Benesch
came back to action after missing last weekend's game with a goal and three
assists. Kevin Croswell came in relief of Nick Patterson in the second
quarter and made 23 saves on 29 shots. Jay Thorimbert won at least 50% of
his face offs for the first time this season. Kevin Buchanan made his
Swarm season debut and notched an assist. Colin Achenbach also made his
season debut for the Swarm. The Swarm had 26 shots miss the net out of 77
shots but still had 51 on net, of which Bandits goaltender Ken Montour saved 44.
Richard Morgan participated in the Swarm first fight of the year taking on the
Bandits' Brandon Francis in the fourth quarter. Mark Steenhuis and his orange
shoes scored a goal and seven assists. Frank Resetarits had three goals
and Kyle Clancy scored a goal and an assist in his first ever NLL game.
John Tavares, the NLL's all-time leading scorer was missing from the lineup as
he has been all season with an injury. Steenhuis, Thomas Montour and Chris
Corbeil each scooped at least ten loose balls for the Bandits.
