  • 02/22/12 - The Swarm Relieve Mike Lines of his Head Coaching Duties; Promote Joe Sullivan to Head Coach

After 2 1/2 seasons as Head Coach, Mike Lines was let go by the Swarm today. The fourth Head Coach in team history, Lines went 16-24 leading the Swarm, which included an 0-2 playoff record. Lines had been with the team since 2007 when he was hired as a scout. He also served as an assistant to Duane "Dewey" Jacobs for the 2008 & 2009 seasons after which he replaced Jacobs as head coach after the 2009 season.

The fifth Head Coach in Minnesota Swarm history is Joe Sulivan. Sullivan was hired as an assistant to Lines starting the 2010 sesason. Before the current season, Sullivan was named Associate General Manager which technically made him Lines's superior and underling at the same time. Sullivan had been an assistant coach with the Chicago Shamrox and Toronto Rock for three years prior to coming to Minnesota. He also has won three Mann Cups as an assistant coach with the Peterborough Lakers of the MSL.

With Sullivan's added responsiblities, it may have been inevitable that Lines would eventually be the odd man out. However, with a 3-3 record as of today after the numerous player changes this offseason, most figured that Lines still deserved to be Head Coach and were shocked by the change. However, fourth quarter troubles which have seen the Swarm outscored 29-15 thie season and apprehension on part of Owner John Arlotta as to whether Lines could effectively lead the Swarm to at least a 2-2 recond on their upcoming four game road trip may have led to today's decision.

  • 02/19/12 - The Mammmoth Use Another Fourth Quarter Rally to Subdue Swarm

Tied 6-6 going into the Fourth, the Minnesota Swarm appeared to have a great chance for victory; however, the Colorado Mammoth churned out a 6-1 quarter to remain unbeaten with a 12-7 victory at The Hive on Saturday in front of a season high crowd of 9,030. Andrew Watt led the Swarm with two goals and Nik Bilic scored his first ever NLL and Swarm goal to tie it at six. John Grant led the Mammoth with four goals and three assists and formwer Swarm Sean Pollock had two goals and three assists including the gamw winner.

The Swarm embark on a four-game road trip beginning Friday, Febraury 24th in Everett, Washington against the Washington Stealth. They return home on Friday, March 30th against the Calgary Roughnecks. The NLL All-Star Game is on Saturday, February 25th in Buffalo with the Swarm being represented by Andrew Suitor, Ryan Benesch, Callum Crawford and Jordan MacIntosh.
