- 01/30/09 - Riley Kemp Placed on Injured Reserve and Josh Funk Signed
The Minnesota Swarm placed defenseman Riley Kemp on injured reserve on January 26. Kemp, who has
been with the team since its inception, is believed to have re-injured the ACL that caused him to miss all of the 2008 season.
Kemp played in one game this year and scooped up three loose balls. In his NLL career, all with the Swarm, Kemp, 26, scored 11 goals,
24 assists in 44 regular season games. He also assisted on a goal in the 2006 Swarm playoff game against the Buffalo Bandits.
To replace Kemp on the active roster, the Swarm signed rookie defenseman Josh Funk. Funk, 22, went to
The Ohio State and was tri-captains of the 2008 Buckeyes along with current Swarm players
Kevin Buchanan and Ricky Pages. Funk was originally selected by the Chicago Shamrox in the
second round with pick #21 in the 2008 Entry Draft. When the Shamrox folded, he was selected ninth by the New York Titans in
the Shamrox dispersal draft. The Titans released him on January 3 when they re-signed NLL leading scorer Casey Powell. Funk
was assigned #5 with the Titans so that may be his number here. He wore #34 in college but that number is already taken.
- 01/25/09 - The Measuring Stick Almost Measured Up
The Minnesota Swarm (2-1) came back from a 5-0 deficit but in the end lost 10-9 to the defending NLL champions, the Buffalo
Bandits, (4-0) by a 10-9 score at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday night. Kevin Ross and Dean Hill each had a goal and
three assists to the lead the Swarm.
