  • 12/12/08 - Swarm select Fines and Candy in Shamrox Dispersal Draft
The National Lacrosse League held a dispersal draft of Chicago Shamrox players today after the team announced today that they are suspending operations for the 2009 season. The Swarm selected two players in the draft, Kevin Fines and Drew Candy. Fines is a righthanded defenseman who is a deadly transition threat. In 58 NLL games, Fines has scored 47 goals and assisted on 35. He is entering his fifth NLL season this year and has played in San Jose, Toronto and Chicago. Candy is a lefthanded defenseman entering his seventh NLL season. He is recognized as being one of the top enforcers in the game and has accumulated 246 penalty minutes in his career. Candy won a Champions Cup in his rookie season in 2002 with the Toronto Rock and has also played with Philadelphia, Buffalo and Chicago.
  • 12/12/08 - 2009 Minnesota Swarm Schedule Version 2.0
With the Chicago Shamrox suspending operations for the 2009 season, every team in the NLL had to revise their 2009 schedules, including the Swarm. All Swarm home dates are on the same dates and times but some of the opponents are different. The Swarm still open their home schedule on January 10 but now will host the San Jose Stealth. On March 28, the Swarm will now host the Calgary Roughnecks. This will be the first time Calgary visits the X. The Swarm will now host the Edmonton Rush on April 4 for the Rush's first ever visit to the X. The Swarm will also host a new opponent on April 11, that being the Portland LumberJax, which will showcase former Swarm goaltender Matt Disher's first trip back to St. Paul. The Swarm will still finish the season with four straight home games.

The road schedule has been definitely revamped. The Swarm now will visit the Philadelphia Wings twice in 2009 on February 21 and March 14. The Swarm also will visit the San Jose Stealth on March 21. Road games originally scheduled on January 31 and February 12 are no longer. The Swarm will have a six game road trip this season which will include two games in Philadelphia and one each in Toronto, Buffalo, San Jose and Colorado.

  • 12/11/08 - Swarm re-sign Cousins and Point
The Minnesota Swarm re-signed two-time NLL Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Cousins and NLL Rookie of the Year Craig Point to contracts today. Cousins, the only captain in Swarm history, was inked for two years while Point is bang on for another year in blue and gold. The Swarm also signed righthanded forward Stu Hill to an one year contract. Hill was captain of the Six Nations Rebels Jr. B team that has won the last two Founders Cups.
  • 12/11/08 - Riley Kemp activated for 2009
Riley Kemp was activated today off injured reserve. Kemp injured his knee on March 31, 2007 against Colorado and through a hard and long rehabilatation process that caused him to miss the 2008 season, Kemp is ready to play in 2009. Kemp is an original member of the Swarm and played in the team's first 43 games.
  • 12/11/08 - Cromwell, Norbraten and Rubel placed on the Protected Player List
The Swarm placed Keith Cromwell, Justin Norbraten and Ian Rubel on the protected player list. All three have jobs which will probably prevent them from playing this year, at least for Minnesota. Cromwell has just started a new teaching job and has coaching responsiblitiies at the high school level. Norbraten has a job in Calgary which makes it difficult to travel; however, if a deal can be done with a team closer to his residence, there may be a move. Rubel is entering the police academy to become a police officer in or around St. Catharines, Ontario.
