September 2014 Updates

August 2014 | Current Month | Other Months | October 2014

  • 09/28/14 - IL Indoor.com - NLL Entry Draft Review: Minnesota Swarm

  • 09/28/14 - YouTube - Over Caffeinated Lacrosse featuring #16 Jordan MacIntosh for the Burlington Chiefs back in the day

  • 09/27/14 - Minnesota Swarm Depth Chart All Inclusive

Today, we take a look at a projected depth chart for the Minnesota Swarm. This will include all the new draft picks and Reid Acton who is still on the hold out list but will be going to camp. I have 29 players going to camp right now compared with 26 last year. Look for the Swarm to sign one more goaltender (probably from Ontario) for sure leading up to camp. They also may bring back Dominique Alexander who finished the 2014 season on the practice roster making him a free agent but is still listed on the Swarm's team roster page on their website.

  • 09/26/14 - In Lacrose We Trust - Miles Thompson Adds New Element in Minnesota

  • 09/25/14 - New Scoreboard at The Hive

The Minnnesota Swarm posted a picture on their instagram page of what the new scoreboard installed at the Xcel Energy Center will look like for Swarm games. It is very impressive indeed and should make the game day experience even better.

  • 09/23/14 - Inside Halton.com - Complete transition: Oakville's MacIntosh named NLL's best at his position

  • 09/23/14 - IFPress.com - Eric Guiltinan was selected by the Minnesota Swarm in National Lacrosse League draft

  • 09/22/14 - UAlbanySports.com - UAlbany Lacrosse Alumni Miles and Ty Thompson Selected in 2014 NLL Entry Draft

  • 09/23/14 - Minnesota Swarm Roster After 2014 NLL Entry Draft

The Minnesota Swarm finished up the 2014 NLL Entry Draft yesterday with their top pick being Co-Tewaaraton Trophy winner Miles Thompson. Joining him as a first round pick is Shane MacDonald from the Brampton Junior Excelsiors. The Swarm also had the tenth pick which they used on Minto Cup champion Joe Haodais Maracle from Six Nations. They also drafted three other players in later rounds in Eric Guiltinan, Patrick Miles and enforcer Paxton Leroux. In order to get the pick to take Leroux, the Swarm traded Jay Card to New England. With the draft and earlier trades and signings, the Swarm roster is looking a bit different from the end of the 2014 season.

  • 09/22/14 - Miles Thompson and Shane MacDonald are the Swarm's New First Rounders

The Minnnesota Swarm had five picks in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft but by the end of the night they added another pick by trading away Jay Card to the New England Black Wolves. Many thought that the Swarm would target Jeremy Noble to pair him with his brother Jason Noble but the Rochester Knighthawks made a blockbuster trade earlier in the day to move up to second overall to take Noble. Now the Swarm had to go with Plan B or did they really get the man the wanted to begin with.

  • 09/22/14 - The Champions Cup Finals are Now Best of Three

The National Lacrosse League announced that the 2015 Champions Cup Final will be a best of three series. Last year, the league experimented with a best of two series with a ten-minute tiebreaker in both the Division Finals and Champions Cup Finals. It was received rather well which led to the expansion of the Champions Cup Finals. The Division Finals will remain at best of two with a ten-minute tiebreaker and the two first round games will still be single elimination. The Champions Cup Finals will be played with one game per weekend starting the weekend of May 29-31 and if it goes three games, it will end on the weekend of June 12-14. The top seed in the Champions Cup Finals will host games one and three while the lower seed will host game two.

    • Division 1st Round (Higher Seed Hosts) - Game 1 - May 8th - May 10th
    • Division Finals (Lower Seed Hosts) - Game 1 - May 15th - May 17th
    • Division Finals (Higher Seed Hosts) - Game 2/10TB - May 22nd - May 24th
    • Champions Cup (Higher Seed Hosts) - Game 1 - May 29th - May 31st
    • Champions Cup (Lower Seed Hosts) - Game 2 - June 5th - June 7th
    • Champions Cup (Higher Seed Hosts) - Game 3 - June 12th - June 14th (if necessary)

Prior to the 2014 season, all playoff games were single elimination except for the 1998 Champions Cup Finals which was a best of three series won by the Philadelphia Wings as they swept the Baltimore Thunder in two games. In 2015, the Wings are now the New England Black Wolves and the Thunder are now the Colorado Mammoth.

  • 09/21/14 - Jordan MacIntosh Transitions into His Second Consecutive NLL Transiton Player of the Year Award

Jordan MacIntosh reaffirms his spot as the top transition player in the NLL as he was named the 2014 NLL Transition Player of the Year at the NLL Season Awards Ceremony at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario tonight. MacIntosh continued as the Swarm's do-it-all man as he had 23 goals and 28 assists, scooped up a Swarm single season record 204 loose balls and won 198 face offs. This is the second straight year that MacIntosh has won the award and to go along with the award he was named to the NLL All-Pro First Team for the second consecutive year. MacIntosh is the second Swarm player to be named twice to the NLL All-Pro First Team joining Ryan Cousins who was named to the 2007 and 2008 teams.

  • 09/21/14 - Logan Schuss Named 2014 NLL Rookie of the Year

Logan Schuss was named the 2014 NLL Rookie of the Year at the NLL Season Awards Ceremony at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario tonight. Schuss set Swarm rookie records with 36 goals and 73 points with a game winning goal against Buffalo on April 12th. Schuss was named the NLL Rookie of the Month for February, March and April 2014 to secure the award. Schuss was also named to the NLL All-Rookie Team. Schuss is the second Swarm player to be named NLL Rookie of the Year joining Craig Point who won the award in 2008.

  • 09/17/14 - Will the Swarm Have a Double-Noble Look?

What will the Minnesota Swarm be looking for in this Monday's 2014 NLL Entry Draft at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. They do need .... EVERYTHING .... That's what team that finishes 4-14 would need to turn last season's disappointment upside up. Even with last season still unwelcomingly fresh in Swarm Owner and General Manager John Arlotta's mind, they don't need everything but they sure could get a few players to help out in 2015 and hopefully beyond.

  • 09/11/14 - Dader Back as Coach for Swarm

From 2006 - 2009, many Swarm fans who met Rory McDade would say he was quiet, levelheaded and in great shape. What no one thought at that time is that McDade would be the first former Swarm player to be officially announced as an assistant head coach for the Swarm. That happened today to the 33 year-old former Swarmer as he joins Head Coach Joe Sullivan's staff for the 2015.

  • 09/11/14 - Dean Hill is Back in Blue and Gold

The last we saw Dean Hill was on February 6, 2009 when he scored a goal and assisted on two. He was traded to Rochester with Craig Point for Aaron Wilson two weeks later in a surprising move. Five years later, Hill is back as he was one of four players signed by the Swarm today. Also signed are Sam Bradman, Zach Palmer and Ian Crawford

  • 09/03/14 - Bradman Hints at Trying Out for Swarm

Sam Bradman was drafted by the Minnesota Swarm in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft with the 24th overall pick in the 3rd round. However, his committment to LXM Pro and probably other lacrosse-related ventures has not seen him in Swarm Blue and Gold. On instagram today, Bradman posted a picture of the 2013 Swarm Irish Jersey with his name and number on it that he received from the team. He mentions this as possible foreshadowing of his plans later this year:

    b12adman
Huge thank you to the @Minnesota_Swarm for sending the Irish Night jersey my way!
Pumped to get back into the mix! #Swarming!

It is expected that he will play LXM Pro this fall after he finished his first MLL season in 2014 with Rochester and then Ohio but the tweet sure sounds like he will attend Swarm training camp looking to make the final roster and not just for an intriguing cup of coffee in a pre-season game in December 2012 against Rochester where he scored two goals.
